Roger Federer's Wimbledon Dominance is Actually Insane

Day Three: The Championships - Wimbledon 2018

You may not know because of the World Cup being on and your July 4th festivities, but this is the first week of Wimbledon. Roger Federer, the defending champion and eight time winner, has picked up right where he left off last year and is dominating everyone in his path. Even though he’s 36 years old and has seemingly been playing the sport since its creation, he looks better than ever. Dating back to last year, Fed has won 29 consecutive sets at Wimbledon. TWENTY NINE. His first three opponents in the tournament have gotten absolutely steam rolled.

First Round: Dusan Lajovic 6-1 6-3 6-4

Second Round: Lucas Lacko 6-4 6-4 6-1

Third Round: Jan Lennard Struff 6-3 7-5 6-2

With today’s beatdown over Struff, Fed earned his 175th career win on grass which is an open court era record. At one point he actually couldn’t stop himself from laughing after he got Struff to whiff on a ball.

Fed has been untouchable when he’s serving. No has even got to deuce on him, never mind threatening with a break point.

This dominance is all going on while top seeds are losing all over the place. So far Marin Cilic (3), Borna Coric (16), Grigor “Baby-Fed” Dimitrov (6), Dominic Thiem (7), Jack Sock (18), David Goffin (10), Stan Wawrinka, and Sam Querrey (11) have all been eliminated. Fed’s draw to get to the semi-finals is essentially a cake walk. I’m not sure he’s going to break a sweat until the semis.

I think Nadal, Kyrgios, Del Potro, and maybe Djokovic are all that is left that have a chance at beating him, and we’re only in the middle of the 3rd round. Federer is my favorite athlete of all time and it’s a fucking treat to see him dominate like this at the age of 36. He is the GOAT.
