It Is Important To Remember That Bobby Ryan Is From Cherry Hill, NJ

NHL: APR 02 Jets at Senators

Lotta people been talking about Erik Karlsson lately. Lotttttttttta people. As of right now, a few teams have been given permission to start talking contract extensions with Karlsson to lock him up once he gets traded. However, while the majority of the focus is on Erik Karlsson, it’s time to revert the focus back to the most important piece of the equation here. That, of course, is Bobby Ryan.

Now Bobby Ryan may not have the sexiest contract known to man. He’s currently signed on for 4 more seasons at $7.25M AAV. But what is important to remember is that Bobby Ryan is actually from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Yup. You read that correctly. Bobby Ryan of the Ottawa Senators is actually a native of South Jersey. Why is that important? Well because Cherry Hill is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Philadelphia. Which just so happens to be where the Philadelphia Flyers play.

So why are we talking about bobby Ryan? Well because it is believed that in order to complete a trade for Erik Karlsson, that team must also be willing to take on Bobby Ryan’s contract in the process. Which is fine because the Flyers currently have around $14 million of free cap space to work with. That is enough for them to take on Karlsson, sign him to the 8×11 contract he’s looking for, as well as taking on Bobby Ryan’s contract. So think about this. The Flyers have the money. Bobby Ryan is from Cherry Hill, NJ. And there’s also this…

All signs seem to be pointing toward Karlsson and Ryan ending up in Philadelphia. Another thing to consider is that Philadelphia has become a hot bed for former 2nd overall NHL draft picks. They have Nolan Patrick who was drafted 2nd overall in 2017. They just re-acquired James van Riemsdyk who, as well as being another New Jersey native, was drafted 2nd overall in 2007. And then Bobby Ryan was drafted 2nd overall in 2005. So not only were all 3 of these players drafted 2nd overall, but they were all drafted in odd number years. Coincidence? Most definitely not.

Now imagine a world where the Flyers do, in fact, acquire Bobby Ryan. That will give them two New Jersey natives on the roster heading into next year. It would only make sense then for the Flyers to also move in toward making a deal for South Jersey native Johnny Gaudreau. Johnny Hockey is currently enjoying his summer in Avalon, which makes sense considering he’s making close to $7 million a year.

Could he simply be in Avalon just for vacation? Or does he just want to be closer to Philly because he knows that a trade is imminent? I think we all know the answer to that one. And listen. I’m not an insider. I’m not plugged in with “sources” or anything like that. I’m just a guy who uses my brain and my brain is often correct. What my brain is telling me right now is that the Philadelphia Flyers make a ton of sense as a trade partner for Erik Karlsson and it all revolves around Bobby Ryan being form Cherry Hill, NJ.
