Happy 40th Birthday To The Legend That Is Dirk Nowitzki

Dallas Mavericks v Memphis Grizzlies

It’s crazy that for well over half of my life Dirk Nowitzki has been in the NBA. As he turns 40 today I want to take a second and simply appreciate how blessed we’ve been as basketball fans over the last 20 years to watch one of the best power forwards of all time. What’s crazy is he isn’t even slowing down! Dirk played 77 games last season and sure he only averaged 12 points but he still had 45/40% splits and his fadeaway is just as unguardable today as it was when we first saw it in 1998. When you look at his career numbers they start to break your brain.

Games Played – 1,471

3PM – 1,918

Points – 31,187

Rebounds – 11,331

FTM – 7,201

When you look all time Dirk ranks 9th in FGM, 5th in GP, 11th in 3PM, 6th in FTM, 28th in REB, 6th in points, 37th in Ortg, 6th in Offensive Win Shares, and is about a sure thing for the HOF as physically possible. Personally, I can’t get enough of these old dudes still hanging on to their NBA lives. I can’t imagine a world in which there is no Dirk or Vince Carter in the NBA, and thankfully they’ve both signed on for at least one more season. Obviously Dirk doesn’t fit today’s mold of NBA superstars who only care about playing with their friends as he has stayed loyal to the Mavs and is going to join Kobe and Duncan as recent guys who spent their entire career with one team. I still find that really cool and something we probably won’t see too often moving forward. We all remember his epic 2011 postseason run where he was finally validated with his one and only ring, and you could say he’s had a pretty nice career making a total of $245M just from his basketball contracts. It is sort of crazy to think that when this kid showed up way back in the day

that he would turn into such an unstoppable beast, but here we are. Now, it’s only right that we all take ample time today and watch the best Dirk highlights the internet has to offer, so please join me in killing some time at work and wishing Dirk a happy 40th

Nobody parties like Dirk. Nobody.
