NYPD Had To Shut Down An Entire Street Because John Travolta Started Dancing In Front Of A Pizza Shop
Source – John Travolta partied like it was 1977 in Brooklyn Tuesday, as he drew a crowd larger than the number of people likely to see his upcoming “Gotti” film.
The official “John Gotti Day” event was held outside Lenny’s Pizza on 86th Street in Bensonhurst, which Travolta made famous in the opening scene of his classic disco film, “Saturday Night Fever.”
“I feel like Brooklyn has been in my DNA since ‘Welcome Back Kotter,’ he said, referring to his role as New Utrecht HS guy Vinnie Barbarino on the ’70s TV sitcom. I love you all so very much. Thanks for giving me a foundation for my career.”
The 61-year-old actor evoked his “Fever” sartorial style at the event by donning a leisure-suit jacket and wide-collared black shirt similar to his outfit from the disco-dance flick.
Hundreds of fans clogged the sidewalks and spilled out onto 86th Street to welcome back the star, and the crush got so intense that the NYPD issued an emergency crowd-control edict to its boroughwide task force just before noon, according to police sources.
People give Travolta a lot of shit but I love him. Am I saying that because there’s a possibility I run into him at a NYC gay bar this weekend and force him to finance my entire life in exchange for trust and discretion? Maybe. Maybe not. I also respect the hell out of what he can do on the dance floor. Saturday Night Fever came out FORTY-TWO years ago and people still lose their minds every time he bops his head. I get the same kind of attention when I dance but it’s usually because I move like Sweet Dee from Always Sunny.
You have to imagine he knew people were going to go nuts. Two claps and a power pose and he’s got every middle-aged pantie in a five-block radius dripping wet. I mean look at this mob scene.

So many people showed up that the NYPD issued an emergency crowd-control edict to get people under control. Think about that… the number of people who took time out of their day to see John Travolta dance was SO large, that police needed to bring in reinforcements. What a world.
Part of me feels bad for the guy. No matter what he does, he’ll always be Tony Manero. Then I look at his bank account and realize it’s a small price to pay.
Regardless, it’s fantastic marketing on the part of his producers. No one knew about this movie until he put the white jacket on. I’m still not going to see it but it’s a job well done. Take it away Tony.
