I've Made It To DC! Time To Find The Cup! Anddddd It's In New York

KA6fkOl

Folks, as you know, I’ve been blogging my dick to the bone since the Caps won the Cup on Thursday. Nonstop, wall to wall coverage. Wake up, blog. Go to sleep, blog. Just kidding, I haven’t slept. I don’t want accolades or appreciation, I’m just doing my job. It’s why Dave pays me the big medium bucks. But maybe if you have appreciated the coverage send him a tweet to let him know, whatever, nbd. Rain or shine, snow or ear infections, you blog. When your team wins a championship, you put on your big boy pants and get to bloggin’. And I’ve gone my entire adult life without one of my teams winning a championship, so this was my time to shine.

So as much as I wanted to be at the game and after party in Vegas with PFT, or partying with everyone this weekend in DC, I have this job for a reason (because I’m fucking awesome at it) and needed to do it all day the last few days. The worst, by the way, was getting DMs telling me where the Cup was going. Those stung a bit, can’t lie. My whole life all I’ve wanted to do was touch the Cup, drink out of the Cup, have a couple minutes of alone time with the Cup, after the Caps won it. And everything lined up perfectly for me, but I was in New York, with a double ear infection, grinding.

Until today.

You see, last night around midnight I booked a 9am train back to DC. I wanted to hunt the Cup. I didn’t even want to party, I just want to get my dang picture with it, kind of as a way to commemorate what my entire life, personal and professional, has led to. And then on my way down, two terrible things happened at once: 1) I got a DM saying Ted and the ownership group have the Cup today, and the players won’t have it back til the parade on Tuesday. And even worse, 2)

NHL -  2018 Stanley Cup® Champions Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals will visit NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, June 11 (11:35 p.m. ET/PT).

The Capitals captured their first Stanley Cup Championship in franchise history. Capitals captain Ovechkin, who led all playoff goal-scorers with 15, won the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to “the most valuable player to his team in the playoffs.” Ovechkin became the second Russian-born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy and the fourth player born outside of North America to earn the honor.

Capitals goalie Holtby recorded all 16 wins in the Capitals’ championship drive, finishing with a 16-7 record, 2.16 goals-against average, .922 save percentage and two shutouts.

THE CUP IS GOING TO BE IN NEW YORK TOMORROW!!!! I CAME DOWN TO DC, AND THE CUP IS GOING UP!!!!!

Put a damn bullet in my brain. Because you know what’s going to happen, right? Ovi is going to be parading around the streets of New York City with the Cup over his head. It wouldn’t shock me if he makes a stop at Barstool HQ. It’s unbelievable timing from me. I finally pulled the trigger to come down to DC to find the Cup, and it’s on it’s way to where I live. Unreal.

But I’ll say this- it’s been an awesome ride and I have zero regrets or complaints. I went to games in every series. I went to game 7 in Tampa. I went to games 1 and 2 in Vegas, I made a bet with Canadian Elvis that won me $10k, and I got to blog a fucking Stanley Cup and Ovi going wild afterwards. It’s all a dream come true.

So now yes, I am going to the parade on Tuesday. I don’t really know how parades work, to be honest. Never had one before, and wasn’t going to miss this. Hopefully we’ll see lots of Our Year shirts, Ovi going wild, and put a nice cherry on what’s been an amazing week.

And hopefully I get to meet the god damn Cup.

PS: How about the Caps/NHL making their own “Our Year” shirts?
