The NBA offseason is back in action which means it’s time for Kyrie Irving to smoke exactly one (1) weed and ramble about whether or not the Earth we inhabit is actually flat or not. When this all broke during last year’s All Star Game it felt like a true troll just to get the media to overreact. It would be like, I don’t know, someone going on reddit and claiming Gronk was about to get traded just to see the world burn. Just good ol’ wholesome fucking around with the media to pass the time.

But now we’re a year and a half past that and Kyrie’s still opining to anyone and everyone that will listen to his ramblings. And the frustrating part is that I’m so close to being on his side. Not the side about the Earth being flat, but the one where he’s preaching that the educational system is broken and that we live in a time where information is but a click away and the empowerment of thinking for oneself. All of that is a great message that he decides to bury by ending with “whoa whoa whoa, you’re not lumping me in with those wacko flat Earth conspiracy theorists OR those level-headed yes men who take any ol’ satellite picture as proof the world as we know it is in fact round.”

Even if his end game isn’t just the message of empowerment and learning but he truly just wanted to troll, I’d be all in. Making people mad online is a passion of mine and it is one of life’s great pleasures in the modern world. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. At least I don’t think so, my head hurts from reading these quotes too many times. I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from Kyrie on this subject this summer or even this week. Hopefully the next batch of quotes clarifies it one way or another.
