GREAT News: Lil Wayne Settles Beef With Birdman, Will Finally Release Tha Carter V

Source - Lil Wayne has settled two long-running lawsuits, TheBlast reports and Pitchfork can confirm. The first was Wayne and Young Money’s breach of contract suit against Cash Money, Birdman and his brother Ronald “Slim” Williams, UMG Recordings, Inc., and Universal Music Group, Inc. According to The Blast, Universal paid “well over $10 million” to settle the suit. In addition, Universal will reportedly release Wayne’s long-delayed Tha Carter V. His deal with Cash Money is allegedly “done” too, The Blast reports.

Lil Wayne’s second settlement was in a suit against Universal Music Group, Inc. and SoundExchange, Inc., originally filed in March 2016. Wayne had sought at least $40 million in damages, claiming that Universal has withheld profits he’s earned from the Young Money artists—such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga—whom he’s discovered. The notice of dismissal, filed on May 25 and obtained by Pitchfork, does not indicate a monetary settlement amount beyond each side agreeing to “bear its own costs and attorneys’ fees.”

Along with the legal battles, Lil Wayne and Birdman have publicly feuded often since December 2014 when Wayne claimed he was a “prisoner,” being forced to stay on Cash Money. The saga has involved a shooting, disstracks, temporary truces, and suggestions of retirement from Wayne.

In the words of Kenny Powers, “finally mother fucker.” Wayne and Cash Money records have been teasing this album since 2012. The original plan was to release it in 2014 but things got held up due to Lil Wayne’s crippling sizzurp addiction, Birdman’s penchant for money laundering, and a massive murder for hire plot.  You know…normal stuff. Regardless, I’m pumped for it to come out. It’s exactly what the rap game needs. Will it play considering it was recorded over five years ago? Probably not, but I don’t care. All I want to see is how younger rap fans react to his music. Mannie Fresh, Birdman, Drake before he was a pussy? It’s going to blow their minds.

People forget how big lil Wayne was during the mid to late 2000’s. Every. single. song he dropped was a hit. Every interview he gave went viral. Remember, “I’m a gangster Miss Katie?” Or what about that time he had a camera crew follow him around Amsterdam while he recorded his album high out of his mind?

He was easily one of the most influential rappers of the 2000’s if not of all time. To be honest, I forgot he existed until this story came out. Who knows how long it’ll be until the album actually comes out, but oh man am I excited. Best case scenario he releases it in the next year and wipes guys like 6ix9ine and lil Pump off the face of the earth. Worst case scenario we have to wait another five years. Which isn’t that far fetched. Maintaining a schedule has never been his strong suit. Oh well. Alls well that ends well. Let’s listen to some bangers.
