Yesterday Was Women's Golf Day & I Celebrated By Sucking Dick (At Golf)

Holy clickbait, batman. Anyways…

Growing up, I remember reading Sunday morning cartoons & a recurring joke was always the poor wife being stuck at home with hyper kids while the husband was out golfing. As I got older, guys in my group of family & friends hit the links, but I didn’t know any women who did. And when I started loosely following the sport on TV, it was rare to see the gals featured.

I’m sure they’d have gladly taken me to a real course had I asked, but beyond chip & putt in the yard with my brother, & the driving range with my dad, it felt like golf was never really something I, (who by total chance, was born with one of those (fabulous) vagina things) was welcome to. Both blatant yet unspoken – golf was the boys club – and it was burden if we tagged along.

In my 20s, living in California, my Marine buddies started taking me to Camp Pendleton’s par 3 course & I loved it. But still, it was never something I’d go & do by myself. I felt fine living outside the wire in Afghanistan, but got nervous thinking about going to a driving range alone, or hopping on with a group at a course. I realize that *might* just be my own weird thing, but I think other ladies would agree – it can feel intimidating.

That’s why I was happy to celebrate Women’s Golf Day yesterday (though maybe I hurt the cause, as I am terrible at it). There were several courses participating in the Philly area, but I went for the one with specials on White Claw.

Women’s Golf Day is a collaborative effort by golf management companies, retailers and organizations all working together to engage, empower and support girls and women through golf. Women’s Golf Day allows a simple and accessible platform to build a foundation and creates a network to support the continuation of golf no matter what skill level or interest.

To be fair, golf does take a whole lotta balls. At least 7+ if you’re me, because I manage to lose them regardless of the landscape. That’s exactly what happened yesterday when I joined in on the Women’s Golf Day fun with my favorite player & fellow CVS sunglasses enthusiast. #DAD

Out of 18 holes, I only shot for par twice, made an enormous amount of divots, forgot my pitching wedge on a green, and had several occasions where I just stopped counting. But as my dad says in true #dad fashion, “If you’re having fun, that’s all that matters.” (*Moments later he would be cursing the golf Gods, flailing his hands, and declaring one of the holes “ridiculous & out of regulations”.)

Shout out to all the ladies who got out there yesterday & to those paving the way. Hope you had better luck than me, unless 5,231 is a good score?
