Tonight The Caps Are Playing A Stanley Cup Home Game For The First Time In 20 Years

20 years. 20 years of close calls, heart break, rebuilds, Halak, the Rangers, Sidney Crosby, that cartoon of Ovi lifting the golf clubs, “you’ll never get out of the 2nd round” tweets, and all sorts of ridiculous Ovi narratives about his heart, hustle, and all of that nonsense. And now after 20 years, the Caps finally are hosting a home game in the Stanley Cup Final.

20 years ago, I was 9 years old. I didn’t get to attend a game, my parents did though. I remember watching all 4 games, 4 straight losses. Little did I know the Caps wouldn’t make it back to the big stage for 2 decades. Lots has changed in those years- I’m bald now! I have to pay my own bills! I wipe my own ass! But what hasn’t changed is my die-hard fandom for this freaking team. Through thick and thin, I’ve shelled out so much money to watch them. Easily more than every other team I like, combined (considering I refuse to pay a dime to Dan Snyder, it isn’t even close). And it was all for these types of moments. And I know I’m not alone- so many Caps fans I met and talked to in Vegas are the same way- we grew up watching the Caps, and now finally have the money and opportunity to support them in the Cup. That’s why there were multiple thousands of Caps fans at both games in Vegas, why 15,000 people packed Capital One on both nights, and why tonight is the biggest game in Caps history. This is what we have waited for, and I could not be more excited. Let’s Go CAPS!
