Tiger Woods Generously Spots The Field 4 Strokes En Route To Opening Round 72

When Tiger teed off today we all had a lot of high hopes. The last time we saw him, we had every reason to be optimistic. After a slow start at The PLAYERS, he posted rounds of 65-69 to play the weekend in 10-under and thrust himself into contention. He’s won The Memorial five times so with a good start at Muirfield and a similar game to what we saw the last two rounds at Sawgrass, this could be the breakthrough week for this latest Tiger comeback.

We did not get off to a great start. Got away with a par on the 10th (first hole of the day) then came to the par-5 11th.

A few more pars, then the tee shot on 15 went here.

That’s oscar bravo folks. A re-tee, a double, then a bogey on 16 and we were 4-over through 7 and looking at a missed cut.

But Tiger’s got this weird thing going on where he never quite posts PHENOMENAL rounds and he never quite posts horrific rounds. He turned it around.

He birdied 5. He birdied 6.

He birdied 7.

Three in a row, par on 8, and a grindy par save on 9 meant an even par 72 for the day.
