It Is With A Heavy Heart That I Declare The Orioles Dead

This team stinks, just flat-out stinks. This blog could have been written after the second week of the season, but I let it slide. Not sure how they ended up at 17-38 and 21 games back, but man are they bad. They’re well on their way to losing over 100 games. I see people talking about “THIS TEAM NEEDS TO TANK”, what the hell do you think they’re doing? They’re arguably the worst team in the league, they are going to be selling half of their guys in a matter of weeks, this tank is on! At the beginning of the year myself and a lot of other media members thought they legitimately had a chance at a Wild Card spot. That dream was pissed away before the end of April. It’s not even like they’ve shown life at all, I think at one point they had won like 5 of 6, and that has been their best stretch of the season. This is some of the most unwatchable baseball I’ve seen in a while, and I watched a lot of Orioles baseball from 1999 on. They’ve lost the first 2 games at home to the Nats, 4 in a row, and 10 of 14.

They can’t score runs, they’ve scored 3 or less in 10 of their last 11, and since they scored 17 runs against the Rays on May 13th, they have scored just 36 runs. They stink. Trey Mancini is batting under .115 in his last 13 games so he gets sat while Chris Davis has been in a slump for over 2 years, is batting .153 with a .237 OBP this season, and has an average of .145 in May, but still gets penciled in the 4 and 5 spot every night. Makes total sense. Hey here is a fun Chris Davis fact. He has 4 home runs and 15 RBI in 49 games this season! Former Oriole and now National, Mark Reynolds has 6 homers and 8 RBI in 12 games this season! Thats great! So awesome!

This is just an all around frustrating year for this club. We viewed this as a “last go round with the boys”, but it’s not even close to that. Now I just sit here staring at my phone waiting to see Davis batting 5th, and am just waiting for Manny Machado, Zach Britton, Brad Brach, and Adam Jones to be traded. But thank god Dan Duquette said the team would wait until Memorial Day to re-evaulaute the talent on the club and see where they were in the race. Hey Dan, they were 20 back and 19 games under .500, probably a good chance you should have been making some calls before your bbq on Monday.

Pitching wise, pretty much everyone but Kevin Gausman, Richard Bleier, and sometimes Dylan Bundy has stunk. David Hess has really impressed me in his short time in an Orioles uniform, we just can’t let him get too close to Tillman. Alex Cobb stinks, Andrew Cashner stinks, Chris Tillman legit couldn’t make any other AA teams, it just all sucks.

This is just an all around embarrassing season for the club with some solid talent on it, Machado, Jones, Mancini, Bundy, Gausman, Schoop, Sisco and they just can’t do anything with it. I don’t know if it’s Buck, if it’s Dan, if it’s someone in the clubhouse, but they just look dead. I don’t think they’ve quit, and I don’t think they will, but man its got to be hard as hell to go out there every single day when the season was over before pools were opening across the country.

Who knows IF the Orioles will even trade Machado and the other guys. I don’t have complete faith in this organization to do that! With our luck they will screw this thing up, keep Manny all season, and only net 2 comp picks for him. Waiting to see if this team trades a guy who had a legit chance to be the best player in franchise history is just insane. I mean it should have never come to this. They haven’t spoken to Machado about a contract extension in 3 years. 3 YEARS!!!!! Waiting for this team to unload their core guys from the last 4 years is like you getting the “hey we need to talk” text and you know the chick is going to break up with you, but you’re stuck at work and have to wait another 5 hours for that talk. This just sucks. This season was been 0 fun sir.
