Lou Holtz Is Immortal - Beats "The Daily Beast" In Court For Falsely Reporting That He Called Immigrants "Deadbeats"

ORLANDO SENTINEL - Hall of Fame football coach Lou Holtz received an apology this month from The Daily Beast to settle a defamation lawsuit he filed against the news website over an article that claimed he called immigrants “deadbeats” at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

The apology, dated May 8 and signed by Neil Rosenhouse, vice president of The Daily Beast, acknowledges Holtz never used the word “deadbeats” in his speech.

“While The Daily Beast stands by the rest of its story, we recognize that Mr. Holtz also spoke to his audience about his poor grandparents, who themselves immigrated to the United States and were processed through Ellis Island,” the apology read.

Lou Holtz really is immortal.  NOBODY wins these things in court.  That’s why the whole Hulk Hogan think was shocking (and awesome.  Mostly awesome.)  And that wasn’t even defamation.  Celebrities and public figures winning defamation, libel, slander etc. cases is always a huge deal because of how hard it is to do and how rarely it’s pulled off.  But here’s ole’ 165 year old peanut-butter-gums face ass Lou Holtz ripping a major online publication to shreds, bending them over his knee like a stubborn great-grandchild and spanking them into a public apology.  Verbally beating them down as if they were a young intern.

In the lawsuit, Holtz’s lawyers claimed the Internet publication’s articles “were clearly antagonistic to Mr. Holtz and malicious, rather than journalistic or mere expressions of opinion. These headlines, when considered with the false and defamatory articles that would follow, constitute express malice, ill will, hostility, and an evil intent to defame and injure.”

The terms of the settlement are confidential, but as part of the agreement required a public apology.

In a statement accompanying the news release, Holtz thanks his lawyers and noted it “ never easy to fight for what you believe in, but I am convinced it is important to do so….Hope this encourages other people to fight for what they believe is right.”

Does this look like the face of a guy who calls immigrants “deadbeats”?

I mean to be honest it kind of does, just in my personal experience of dealing with old people who look like that – but he DIDN’T.  That would just be me stereotyping, which is exactly what the Daily Beast did here, and it’s wrong.  Shame on you Daily Beast.  Let’s stick to the facts.

And Betsy you better HOPE the audio matches up exactly with these comments!!

Lou only speaks one language.  And nobody quite knows what it is exactly.
