Noted Scott Boras Mouthpiece, Jon Heyman, Has A HUGE Problem With The Orioles Rebuilding

So for some strange reason, Jon Heyman, noted Scott Boras mouthpiece and hack MLB writer, has an issue with how the Baltimore Orioles are conducting their day-to-day business operations. The great MLB writer that he is, he points out that the Orioles don't belong on the field with the Yankees. Now there are no real stats to back that up, but lets just take his word for it. Everyone and their mother knows that the Orioles are not contending for a few seasons at least. Heyman, for some reason, has a problem with that. He seems to think that it's not good for the game. Thats his opinion. He also used a random reliever getting called up as another one of his bullet points. Apparently all prospects MUST have unreal numbers before they get called up, according to Heyman.
The fact that he is calling what the Orioles are doing a "tank job" is insane too. A tank job would have been trading Trey Mancini, Dylan Bundy, Jonathan Villar, Mychal Givens, and anyone else with a pulse at the deadline. They didn't do that, because they aren't taking. They are rebuilding, but you're an idiot if you think they are tanking. They aren't losing games on purpose, even those this last week seems like they are. Are they on the same level as the Yankees? Nope. Are they sniffing the Red Sox, Rays or Jays? Nope. Competing against the big guns takes time and money. The Orioles are slowly climbing the steps to get there, rebuilding their farm system (up from 22 to 8), spending more in the International Market than they ever have before, and cutting ties with plenty of failed prospects from previous regimes. We knew they wouldn't be good this season, we all thought they would lose more than 110 games. Hell, last year they were trying to contend! They entered the season with the same core of players who brought them to the playoffs in 2012, 2014, and 2016. And what happened there? They stumbled out of the gate and ended up with a last place finish. That wasn't tanking either, Jon.
He also seems to think the Orioles are the worst team in baseball, which they aren't. I haven't heard a peep out of anyone about the Detroit Tigers rebuilding, which has gone on for a few seasons now, and they sit at the bottom of the standings. There has been chatter about the Marlins and what they are doing, but you don't see Heyman crying on his keyboard about that. I don't seem to remember much commotion over the Astros or Cubs rebuilding, guess it worked out for them, right Jon?

Doesn't seem like Heyman had any big issue here, hell the Astros even brought in 58-year-old Roger Clemens. He had interest in the Astros rebuild, as many other people did, maybe you've heard of the book "Astroball"? So why is he having such a fit about what the Orioles are doing? His Scott Boras client, Chris Davis already got paid by the club, he should be happy! Hell, part of the reason they are forced to rebuild IS the Chris Davis deal. Again, I have no real clue who pissed in Jon Heyman's cereal, but it was probably a guy in a Cal Ripken Jr jersey. He doesn't seem to know that not every team has an extra $200 mill sitting around to build a roster, that is what is bad for baseball. Baltimore isn't New York, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, or Boston, they don't have the same market as those teams and therefore it makes it tough to compete with them dollar for dollar. THIS is how they have to rebuild, not just going out and signing a free agent or two. All last season when the Orioles were bottoming out, people said "they need a plan, they can't just keep doing this!" and now they have a plan and boneheaded MLB writers call them out for it. Shut up, Jon.
Naturally as he sent out those dumbass tweets last night, Orioles fans flocked to his mentions. He pulled his best Ben Wallace impression and blocked the hell outta everyone (not me). Was he feeling cheeky on a Tuesday night and wanted to get a fanbase riled up? Maybe. But also, what does he want them to do? Would he rather a team like Baltimore go out and sign a bunch of random, middle of the pack guys and MAYBE win 65-70 games? We saw how that worked in Baltimore for almost 20 years. Does he want them to just sit there twiddling their thumbs and hope and pray some big free agent wants to take a lesser deal and come to Baltimore? No. This is one way you can build the contending teams. It's a slow and painful process, but as we've seen recently, it works. Ask any of the Astros fans at their parade if the 3 straight 100+ loss seasons was worth it. Ask Dan Katz if the Cubs sucking for a while was worth it. The Mariners haven't made the playoffs since 2001!!! Do they get any shit? Nope, they just field a middle tier team every year and no one gives a shit. They have no plan and that is fine with them. The Orioles have a plan and are putting into place and are the ones who get shit on.
Someone asked him if the Orioles should go all in and win maybe 80 games. He responded with "The Reds went all out. It isn't so bad to try." Holy shit is this guy dumb! They did try last year and it didn't work. It made NO SENSE to try and bring back some of their free agents to contend this season. That would have been the dumbest thing they could have done. The smart thing would be to sell off any assets they had and get prospects back, they did that and it has help set them up for the future. THAT is good for baseball, Jon. Ask the Pirates if they should have "gone for it" last season when they traded two perennial All Stars for Chris Archer and then bottomed out. Not every team is in the position to "go for it".
Heyman is one of the strangest guys on the baseball beat, and seems to have some sort of personal vendetta against the Orioles. If he has anything else to say, he can fight me in RnR.
