Josh Hamilton Arrested On A Felony Charge Of Child Abuse Against His Own Daughter And The Details Are Appalling

Tampa Bay Rays v Texas Rangers

The tragic tale that is the story of Josh Hamilton’s life just took another bad turn.

Former Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of injury to a child.

Court records show that Hamilton, a Keller resident, was booked and released in Tarrant County about 3:15 p.m. No details about the case were immediately available.

Family-court records show that Hamilton’s ex-wife, Katie Hamilton, had sought a protective order earlier this month on behalf of one of the couple’s children.

Hamilton is a high profile name, but the first thing you think of here is the child and wondering if they’re okay. The report offers no status on the child, what happened or who the child is in relation to Hamilton.

The report seems to suggest that it was his own child, as Hamilton’s wife attempted to get a protective order against Hamilton on behalf of one of their three daughters some time this month. His ex-wife, Katie, also has a daughter from a previous relationship. Hamilton filed for divorce in 2015 from Katie, who was the daughter of one of Josh’s former caretakers.

If you know Hamilton’s story, then you know his history of alcohol and drug abuse, his comeback story when he returned to Major League Baseball, put on a show for the ages at the 2008 Home Run Derby, and won an MVP in 2010 en route to back-to-back American League pennants with the Rangers. After five consecutive All Star selections, Hamilton signed a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels and that’s when the wheels fell off again.

Hamilton suffered a relapse in 2009 with the Rangers, but it would happen again in February of 2012, then again in February of 2015. His tenure with the Angels will go down as one of the worst free agent signings of all-time in any sport, as the outfielder played out just a season and a half of his five-year pact before he was handed back to the Rangers as damaged goods. By the end of the contract, Hamilton could barely walk.

It’s a constant battle for the former Rangers star, but there’s no excuse for what these felony charges implicate. Between the protective order sought out by his ex-wife and now this, it would seem that Hamilton has once again gone down a dark path and this time, there deservedly will be no sympathy for him and his actions.

UPDATE: The details are appalling, and it appears it was one of his own daughters.

UPDATE II: It was his daughter and the details continue to get worse.

The girl told authorities that Hamilton became upset about something she said and threw a full water bottle, hitting her in the chest, while cursing and yelling at her. He then pulled a chair out from under her feet and tossed it at her before yanking her to the ground, the affidavit says.

Hamilton then picked up the girl, threw her over his shoulder and carried her to her bedroom as she yelled that she was sorry, the document says. She said that he threw her onto her bed, used one hand to pin down her head and then started hitting her legs with his other hand.

He later picked her up by her sweatshirt, causing it to rip, she said, and hit her on her back.

According to the affidavit, after he stopped hitting the girl, he said: “I hope you go in front of the [expletive] Judge and tell him what a terrible dad I am so I don’t have to see you anymore.”

I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I say, fuck Josh Hamilton.
