Want To Know The Best And Worst Episode Of The Office? Good News, I Have All 185 Episodes Ranked For You

the-office-nbc

This is by far the hardest I may have ever worked and that includes during the NCAA Tournament. I’ve been rewatching The Office for roughly the seventh time because it’s easy to have on while I work from home now. I started thinking how tough would it be to rank all 185 episodes? I say 185 because I combined all two-part episodes into one since it’s pointless to split them up.

Obviously, this is just based on my thoughts and people will disagree. I’m cool with that, just let me know your top-10, bottom-10 or what is egregiously misranked here. I’m not going to break down each episode because, frankly, that’s just way too many words. I’ll pick every couple to talk about explaining why I ranked them where I did. Let’s get into it.

185. Threat Level Midnight (S7, E17)
This is one that will draw a lot of attention. This is the episode that I feel like people either love or hate, I personally am more on the hate episode (note that I don’t truly hate any episode). I’m just not a big fan of the movie within a show deal. It’s a nice flashback to a previous episode and some old characters, but I’d rather have a regular episode.

184. Vandalism (S9, E14)
183. Couple’s Discount (S9 E15)
182. Phyllis’ Wedding (S3 E16)
This is the most cringe-worthy episode for me. I can’t stand watching Michael during this episode as he tries to make himself part of the wedding. Anyone is married knows how stressful that day is leading up the wedding. Having that carry over to the reception is that x100. This one is hard to watch until Rashida Jones starts singing on stage.

181. Grief Counseling (S3 E4)
180. The Banker (S6 E14)
179. Mrs. California (S8 E9)
178. The Seminar (S7 E14)
177. Pam’s Replacement (S8 E7)
176. Customer Loyalty (S9 E12)
175. Roy’s Wedding (S9 E2)
Who the hell gets invited to their ex’s wedding? Who invites an ex? Who brings their husband to said wedding? Fucking Pam, man.

174. Pilot (S1, E1)
173. Michael’s Birthday (S2 E19)
172. Chair Model (S4 E14)

171. Job Fair (S4 E17)
170. Blood Drive (S5 E18)
169. The Manager + The Salesman (S6 E16)
168. Andy’s Play (S7 E3)
I’m over Andy by this point and the whole play thing is just overboard for me. Plus, you have the whole Andy/Erin thing going on while Erin babysits Cece.

167. Christening (S7 E7)
166. Spooked (S8 E5)

165. Here Comes Treble S9 E5)
164. Lice (S9 E10)
163. Customer Survey (S5 E7)
162. Conflict Resolution (S2 E21)
161. Local Ad (S4 E9)
Another weird episode for me. Centered around Michael wanting to create his own ad instead of using the agency. Then Jim becomes a suck up/good friend by getting the bar to play Michael’s cut instead at the end.

160. Employee Transfer (S5 E6)
159. Baby Shower (S5 E4)

158. Body Language (S6 E23)
157. Valentine’s Day (S2 E16)
156. Junior Salesman (S9 E16)
155. Training Day (S7 E20)
154. The Inner Circle (S7 E23)
I actually don’t mind The Office once Michael leaves. Sure, there’s a bit of a downfall, but there are some great characters that come in. One of those characters is not DeAngelo. The inner circle where Jim is in and then out and then Pam tries to get him back in is just weird.

153. St. Patrick’s Day (S6 E19)
152. The List (S8 E1)

151. Get The Girl (S8 E19)
150. The Alliance (S1 E5)
149. Product Recall (S3 E21)
148. The Disposition (S4 E12)
147. Dream Team (S5 E22)
146. Paper Airplane (S9 E20)
145. Turf War (S8 E23)
I do laugh every time when Dwight tells Jim to do something to the Syracuse salesman’s car and he just opens the door. That whole scene along with Jim saying he’d essentially be Dwight if he wasn’t a paper salesman is just gold all around.

144. Welcome Party (S8 E20)
143. Sabre (S6 E15)

142. Search Committee (S7 E25/26)
141. Living the Dream (S9 E21)
140. Jury Duty (S8 E13)
139. Company Picnic (S5 E28)
138. The Chump (S6 E25)
137. Hot Girl (S1 E6)
136. Did I Stutter? (S4 E16)
135. Andy’s Ancestry (S9 E3)
134. The Secret (S2 E13)
133. Moving On ( S9 E16)
132. Classy Christmas (S7 E11/12)
The return of Holly to the Scranton branch leads to Michael acting weird. I can enjoy pettiness though when he tries to destroy the Woody doll. Then there’s the snowball fight between Jim and Dwight where Dwight just absolutely destroys Jim’s soul.

131. The Meeting (S6 E2)
130. The Boat (S9 E6)

129. Gettysburg (S8 E8)
128. Secretary’s Day (S6 E22)
127. Women’s Appreciation (S3 E22)
126. Performance Review (S2 E8)
125. Business Trip (S5 E8)
124. Doomsday (S8 E6)
123. Work Bus (S9 E4)
122. Happy Hour (S6 E21)
121. Traveling Salesman (S3 E13)
120. Lecture Circuit (S5 E16/17)
A heavy dose of Pam and Michael, which isn’t the absolute best. However, she does encourage him to go to Nashua where Holly works. That’s where we find out Holly is dating AJ but has the word document to Michael that he steals. Back in Scranton though we get Jim/Dwight leading Kelly’s birthday party giving us the ‘It Is Your Birthday’ sign.

119. Take Your Daughter to Work Day (S2 E18)
118. The Incentive (S8 E2)
117. New Guys (S9 E1)
116. The Sting (S7 E5)
115. Andy’s Ancestry (S8 E21)
114. Prince Family Paper (S5 E13)
113. Suit Warehouse (S9 E11)
112. Costume Contest (S7 E6)
111. Whistleblower (S6 E26)
110. Diwali (S3 E6)
109. Fundraiser (S8 E22)
108. The Whale (S9 E7)
We get minimal of shitty Andy, which is a win. At the same time we have the hilarious storyline of Jan with barely legal men and Dwight sets up Clark with Jan to go on a weeks-long trip around the world to get the sale. I also enjoy the interaction of Angela and Oscar before she finds out that the Senator is cheating on her with Oscar.

107. PDA (S7 E6 )
106. Garage Sale (S7 E19)
105. Todd Packer (S7 E18)
104. Secret Santa (S6 E13)
103. The Convention (S3 E2)
102. The Search (S7 E15)
101. Lotto  (S8 E3)
100. The Cover-Up (S6 E21)
99. Benihana Christmas (S3 E 10/11)
98. The Job (S3 E24/25)
97. Broke (S5 E25)
96. The Negotiation (S3 E19)
95. E-mail Surveillance (S2 E9)
Here’s where most people can relate. You don’t want to hang out with your boss and Jim is trying to organize that by getting everyone in the office to his place for a party. That begs a question though. Does Jim have any friends? Why are you inviting coworkers over? I don’t think Jim has any friends.

94. Drug Testing (S2 E20)
93. The Client (S2 E7)
92. Ultimatum (S7 E17)
91. The Farm (S9 E17)
90. Heavy Competition (S5 E24)
89. The Promotion (S6 E3)
88. Sexual Harassment (S2 E22)
87. Christmas Party (S2 E10)
86. Ben Franklin (S3 E15)
85. Christmas Wishes (S8 E10)
84. Promos (S9 E18)
83. New Boss (S5 E20)
82. Branch Wars (S4 E10)
81. China (S7 E10)
80. Free Family Portraits (S8 E24)
79. Booze Cruise (S2 E11)
One of the more important episodes I think is this one. This is where Michael finds out that Jim is in love with Pam. We find out that the Jim/Pam storyline is one that the show is really going to follow here as he leaves Katie. It also is one of the first times that show just how terrible Pam is. She hates on Katie for no reason, says she’ll never get married on a boat without her parents (hint: she does just that when they run away in Niagra).

78. Boys + Girls (S2 E15)
77. Double Date (S6 E9)
76. Sex Ed (S7 E4)
75. The Return (S3 E14)
74. Counseling (S7 E2)
73. Branch Closing (S3 E7)
72. Crime Aid (S5 E5)
71. New Leads (S6 E20)
70. Business School (S3 E17)
69. Office Olympics (S2 E3)
68. Back From Vacation (S3 E12)
67. Golden Ticket (S5 E19)
66. The Delivery (S6 17/18)
65. Money (S4 7/8)
64. Cocktails (S3 E18)
63. A.A.R.M.  (S9 E22/23)
62. The Target (S9 E8)
I would enjoy taking Stanley and Phyllis out to lunch and getting day drunk with them. I wouldn’t do it for the reason Jim did, but it’d be fun to see Stanley shitfaced at 2pm right before his afternoon nap.

61. The Fire (S2 E4)
60. Weight Loss (S5 E1/2)
59. Cafe Disco (S5 E27)
58. WUPHF.com (S7 E6)
57. Special Project (S8 E14)
56. Casual Friday (S5 E26)
55. The Convict (S3 E9)
I mean:

54. Night Out (S4 E15)
53. Shareholder Meeting (S6 E11)
52. Dundies (S2 E1)
51. Halloween (S2 E5)
50. Michael Scott Paper Company (S5 E23)
49. Two Weeks (S5 E21)
48. Koi Pond (S6 E8)
47. Garden Party (S8 E4)
46. Dwight Christmas (S9 E9)
45. Nepotism  (S7 E1)
44. Beach Games (S3 E23)
43. Safety Training (S3 E20)
42. The Carpet (S2 E14)
The dream that most people have when they quit. Take a massive shit on your boss’s carpet. In this case it’s just Todd Packer taking a shit for no reason but to prank Michael though. Oh, that Packer. Always up to something.

41. The Lover (S6 E7)
40. Trivia (S8 E11)
39. Dwight’s Speech (S2 E17)
38. Stairmageddon (S9 E19)
37. The Surplus (S5 E10)
36. Health Care (S1 E3)
35. Good Bye Toby (S4 E18/19)
34. Survivor Man (S4 E8)
33. Viewing Party (S7 E8)
32. Niagara (S6 E4/5)
Ah, the wedding at Niagara Falls. There’s a lot going on here, but all in all it’s a real solid episode. You have Andy ripping his testicle, because of course Andy would do that. Michael continues to be cringe-worthy during weddings, but one of my favorite underrated parts here is Toby being excited it’s not happening and Ryan being pissed it’s delayed.

31. Gossip (S6 E10)
30. The Coup (S3 E3)
29. Pool Party (S8 E5)
28. Diversity Day (S1 E2)
27. Dunder Mifflin Infinity (S4 E3/4)
26. Frame Toby (S5 E9)
25. Dwight K. Schrute (Acting) Manager (S7 E21)
24. Scott’s Tots (S6 E 12)
I don’t hate this episode as much as people do. I also don’t love it like some do. So I’m putting it here in the top-25. It has everything from Michael being Michael where he can’t live up to a promise. Erin finally gets through with Michael. The unlikely duo of Dwight and Ryan having a diabolical plan is also a hilarious storyline.

23. Mafia (S6 E6)
22. Business Ethics (S5 E3)
21. Casino Night (S2 E22)
20. Basketball (S1 E5)
19. Last Day in Florida (S8 E 18)
18. After Hours (S8 E16)
17. Test the Store (S8 E17)
16. Tallahassee (S8 E15)
I love the Florida episodes. I think they are fantastic, especially since you get a break from Pam/Jim and just the office set up in general. Along with the Jim and Dwight interactions you have the bed bug scene. One of the more underrated scenes is that whole thing with Jim describing the bed bug as smug, Dwight gathering a bunch of heat and getting under the covers, the two of them having to share a bed. Just a wildly underrated segment.

Let’s not forget you also get Stanley as a whole new character. I think Stanley in Scranton is one of the better secondary characters, but now that you get Florida Stanley? Woo, buddy, you get something special. Between him hitting on the chicks in the car, drinking during the meeting, all the Tommy Bahama shirt, he gets even better down in Tallahassee

15. Moroccan Christmas (S5 E11)
14. Fun Run (S4 E1/2)
13. Launch Party (S4 E5/6)
12. Initiation  (S3 E5)
11. The Merger (S3 E8)
10. The Injury (S2 E12)
9. Murder (S6 E10)
8. The Fight (S2 E6)
7. Gay Witch Hunt (S3 E1)
6. Goodbye, Michael (S7 E22)

5. Finale (S9 E1)
One of the best finales that I can think of. It has everything with Michael coming back, Pam redeeming herself by selling the house and letting Jim chase his dream and Dwight and Angela getting married. The bachelor party is a strong set up for reminiscing and just seeing the characters all together.
4. Michael’s Last Dundies (S7 E21)
It’s too hard to pass up, especially one of the more memorable scenes where the office sings to Michael. Everyone knows the story now as Steve Carrell didn’t know that was going to happen getting an actual response from him. I do laugh at DeAngelo screaming as he talks every time though. So dumb, so perfect.
3. The Duel (S5 E12)
I don’t care if people are sick of it at this point I’ll never stop laughing at Andy getting in his car and trying to run over Dwight going under 5mph. I also howl laughing every time when Jim tries to stop it from happening and Andy and Dwight high five each other when they agree to the duel.
2. Stress Relief (S5 E14/15)
Probably the best opening in the show with Dwight setting the office on fire and Stanley having a heart attack. Michael telling Stanley he can’t die because Barack is president will always get a laugh as will the CPR scene. I mean watch this and not smile

1. Dinner Party (S4,E1)
It’s the absolute best. No need to get into it because most people agree with this one and it’s not a surprise. Just the absolute best.
