Top-10 Recruit Romeo Langford Announces He'll Stay Home To Play At Indiana

The last major recruiting decision for the Class of 2018 has been made with Romeo Langford announcing tonight that he’ll be attending Indiana for the 2018-19 season. Langford, who is ranked as high as the No. 5 recruit is an Indiana native and chose Indiana over Kansas and Vanderbilt. This entire recruitment was wild. At one point Langford seemed to have interest in Louisville then the Pitino firing and FBI investigation happened. From there it was pretty quiet about who he was picking but the intrigue in Langford was crazy.

I mean these are quotes from tonight:

There was this picture:

It’s almost as if he had to choose Indiana based on that alone. But, in reality he ends up being the first big time recruit for Archie Miller in Bloomington. More importantly he’s showing other Indiana kids that staying home to play is the cool thing again. There’s no doubt that Indiana is one of the 10 best jobs in the country and one of the most successful programs, but over the last handful of years it always felt like they were missing out on keeping big time recruits in state.

Indiana will also now be a top-25 team and in talks for contending in the Big 10. The Hoosiers are expected to have a core of Langford, De’Ron Davis, Devonte Green, Zach McRoberts and possibly Juwan Morgan. Langford also joins Jerome Hunter as a top-50 recruit going to Indiana next season. He is the first top-10 recruit to pick Indiana since Cody Zeller. Expect this team to start to develop what Archie’s Dayton teams had. By that I mean each person starts to really fill a role and you see them embrace defense.

Langford is a 6’6″ wing, who is a dynamic scorer. He played his entire high school career at New Albany, just over the Ohio River from Louisville, where he scored over 3,000 career points. It’s assumed he’ll be a one-and-done as he’s currently projected to go No. 5 per DraftExpress. Remember the 2019 NBA Draft is shaping up to be one of the weaker ones – at least heading into the draft as that can obviously change as guys develop at the NBA level.

The Indiana native has good size to play either spot on the wing as he’s 6’6″ with a 6’10” wingspan. While he’s not known for being a great shooter, he’s efficient on the offensive side of the ball. He doesn’t force a bunch of shots and does an excellent job of setting himself up both off the ball and with the dribble.
