Red Gerard's Family Was Sending Him Snapchats Of Them Shotgunning Beers At 8:30 In The Morning To Pump Him Up For His Run

A lot of buzz surrounding seventeen-year-old Olympic gold medalist Red Gerard. Hubbs blogged about him over the weekend and his story is actually pretty cool. You can read more about it here. But of all the stories that have come out over the past few days this one is by far my favorite. Mom, Dad and the whole gang shotgunning beers at 8:30 in the morning to get their underage son pumped for his run. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. Not only is it cool, it worked because he dominated his run. We had former US Olympic snowboarder Andy Finch on Barstool Breakfast this morning to talk about Red’s future and it was fascinating. One line stuck with me when he started talking about the level of fame he’s going to experience. He said, “he has no idea what storm is about to hit him.”

Endorsements, appearances, speaking engagements. The craziest part is he doesn’t even seem fazed by it. Just up there cool as a cucumber cracking drinking jokes that he shouldn’t even understand. What a life. Hopefully his parents keep the tradition going for his next run so he can win a few more medals. It’d be a shame for him to miss out on a win because mom and dad were too hungover to shotgun a beer at 8:30 in the morning. Regardless, it’s wild to think that his entire life is about to change all because he’s good at snowboarding. Best of luck Red and go USA!
