Odds are, you’ll be able to start legally betting on sports in New Jersey on Memorial Day.

Monmouth Park is ready to take wagers starting on May 28, Memorial Day, the unofficial start of the summer, the operator of the Oceanport racetrack told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday.

“We do not believe that there’s not any legal reason why we can’t start taking bets immediately,” Dennis Drazin said. “In the interim, we believe that we’re free to go ahead and start taking wagers.”

“We’re planning on opening and we’re probably going to be ready officially on the 28th,” Drazin said.

The U.S. Supreme Court opened the gates for sports betting by overturning a national ban on Monday. New Jersey law allows sports betting without regulations, but lawmakers and Gov. Phil Murphy say they will work fast to get them in place.

Well, that was quick. I thought this would take a little bit of time to actually get rolling in the great state of New Jersey, but nope I was very wrong. Two weeks folks. Two goddamn weeks and you can head to Monmouth Park and make a legal sports bet. This is a day many thought would never come after many senators and politicians tried so hard to get this bill passed over the last several years. At times it seemed like it would never happen, but here we are.

Over the last few weeks Monmouth Park has geared up for the official green light from the Supreme Court that we got yesterday. They’ve revamped their William Hill Sports Bar into a sports book. Analysts predict that the Monmouth Park sports book could generate at least $750 million alone. That’s fucking insane and it makes sense why they don’t want to waste any more time before getting this bad boy up and rolling.

Who lives 25 minutes from Monmouth Park? That would be your boy. Memorial Day is already an incredible day signifying the start of Summer. Well it just got a billion times better with this wrinkle. See everyone at the track, let’s lose all of our money together.
