How Tennessee Went From Hiring Greg Schiano To Telling Him "Lol jk!" In The Same Day

At this point, I’m sure you heard about the Greg Schiano debacle in Tennessee yesterday. Kmarko blogged about the almost Tennessee coach last night with the perfectly titled headline, “Tennessee Hires Greg Schiano As Head Coach, Changes Their Mind When They Find Out Everyone Fucking Hates Greg Schiano.

You know about point A and point B, but what about all that happened in between? Let’s DIVE in:

Before Sunday: Butch Jones was fired November 12th after yet another disappointing season. Since the firing, the entire Tennessee fanbase bought into every #GRUMOR possible only to be disappointed in recent reports that Gruden was not coming out of retirement to coach the 4-8 Tennessee Volunteers.

Tennessee ended their season with a 42-24 home loss to in-state rival Vanderbilt, to complete their 0-8 SEC season. Going 4-8 and 0-8 in the SEC is awful and everything, but I don’t want to gloss over the fact that they lost by 18 points to a 5-7 Vanderbilt team at HOME. That is what we call rocky bottom, folks.

Sunday, 12:33 PM:

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse on Rocky Top, this hit:

Sunday, 1:35 PM: What seemed like a joke turned out to be a truth:

People WERE not happy:

Turns out that if you hire a guy who went 28-48 in the Big East and 11-21 in the NFL to coach an SEC team people aren’t going to respond well. Oh, wait, I forgot the whole cover-up of child rape thing at Penn State. That’s not a great trait to have as the highest paid state employee!

Sunday, 2:56 PM: Clay Travis, one of the 99.9999% who wasn’t a fan of the potential hire, decided to tweet out Tennessee AD John Currie’s phone number:

Such an absurdly psychotic move that you kind of have to respect it.

3:03 PM: Former players weren’t happy either!

3:45 PM: ASSEMBLE! WE, THE PEOPLE, WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS!

3:54 PM: Politicians were, also, not happy! And when I say politicians I don’t mean your local jabroni representative, I’m talking Sarah Huckabee Sanders:

And KANE!

4:00 PM: Update on Tennessee’s thoughts on John Currie:

4:26 PM: It’s working?!

4:40 PM: Remember the famous Lane Kiffin rock?

TENNESSEE-FOOTBALL-RIOTS-PHOTOS-PICTURES

Well, it had a remix:

5:03 PM:

We didn’t have a problem with Greg Schiano for the past 2 years, but we do now! Not like the court documents about Schiano’s alleged knowledge about Sandusky came out in July of 2016! Look at us! We are standing up for what we believe in! We are TOTALLY not taking advantage of this for our own personal good!! LOOK AT MY FACEBOOK STATUS!

5:19 PM: Vol fans took to the street and I’m not saying just 5 crazy people stood outside the football stadium, instead it was A LOT of people:

This protest supported the unthinkable, #BringBackLane:

8:01 PM: IT WORKED!!!

TIME TO VIRTUE SIGNAL!!!!

One trend I saw on Twitter from Tennessee fans was them patting themselves on the back for doing the right thing and getting rid of Greg Schiano. A lot of the tweets had the tone that Greg Schiano was the second coming of Vince Lombardi and them voicing up their disapproval of him was strictly because of the Sandusky situation. Their disdain towards Schiano had nothing to do with his 28-48 Big East record at Rutgers or his awful performance with the Bucs, because, as we all know, the state of Tennessee has the moral compass of Gandhi & Mother Theresa combined.

Virtue signaling when it comes to college football is beyond dumb. The sport is incredibly fun to be a fan of, but it’s incredibly corrupt. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be a fan of it, because if you want to be holier than thou and not support anything corrupt I wish you luck in your life living as a monk without sports, entertainment, politics, and education. Going down the moral high ground/virtue signaling route in college football is a slippery, slippery slope and something no fanbase should ever do. I’m not saying Tennessee fans didn’t disapprove of Schiano’s alleged role in the Sandusky cover-up, but you and I both know that if Greg Schiano was a Nick Saban level coach, you wouldn’t have heard a peep about his past.

8:21 PM: Not a great day to be John Currie!

The quickest way to make $20,000,000 ever?

TODAY, 10:55 AM: LANEEEEEE!!!!!

Today, 11:31:

John Currie released a statement:

“We carefully interviewed and vetted him.” Wait, so John Currie looked at the Penn State situation and said, “no big deal, Greg, the past is the past!???????” Maybe Currie knows more about the Sandusky situation than the public does, but not the greatest look by Currie to add more gasoline to the dumpster fire he already created yesterday.

I’ll keep an eye on all this in the upcoming days. The crazy part is Tennessee still needs a coach. I have one guy in mind:
