Cincinnati Sports Arguing About Ending A 28-Year Playoff Losing Streak Is The Saddest Thing I've Seen

It’s rare to find a sad thing in sports. However, when you live in Cincinnati and you’re not a fan of Cincinnati sports teams it’s absolutely hilarious. That’s the only way I can define what I’ve been seeing within Cincinnati Twitter this week. Personally, I can’t stop laughing. It could be me just watching the Giants offense in the red zone again or this, tough to tell.

So what’s going on exactly? FC Cincinnati (the one Cincinnati team I’ll cheer for) won a USL playoff game. It was an awesome game. Went to PK’s and then went to extra PK’s. FC Cincinnati is also moving to the MLS after this year. All awesome.

However, their fans have a bit of little brother syndrome within the city. They want to be viewed like the Bengals and Reds. It’s a loyal following and FC Cincinnati is actually a good team. But, it’s the USL. It’s not going to be in the same level as the NFL and MLB.

Let’s stop trying to act like the curse ended. I mean the Cincinnati Cyclones (shout out to the AHL) won a few titles in the last 28 years. Why aren’t we counting them? They are getting paid to play sports the last time I checked. All in all it’s just resulting in the saddest argument I’ve seen in sports. Imagine cheering for a city with 28 years of not winning? Couldn’t be me. Imagine arguing that this snaps the city’s curse? Yikes. I mean YIKES.

So here’s to Cincinnati – the gift that keeps on giving. I truly love living here. It’s a wonderful city that has grown in the last 9 years I’ve been here. The development of OTR and the Banks have been wonderful as a resident. But, please keep losing Cincinnati sports. It’s fun seeing the city be this way and I can’t picture the city talking about winners. I need to keep hearing people freak out during Bengals primetime games.
