Covering Zion as a top end Division 1 athlete was a near impossible task. Covering Zion as just some hungover kid at the rec center feels like a death wish. He accidentally hits you with a shoulder as he drives to the rim and that’s a caved in sternum REAL quick. And if you don’t think he can ramp up the kind of speed and strength necessary to crack a human chest in half just take a look at the damage done to this hoop. The majority of hoops have long been Shaq-proofed like this one was. You don’t see nearly as many shattered backboards as you once did. But Zion seems determined to change all of that. At least snapping some shotclocks off or something. There will be many pickup games ended prematurely because of this, and many NBA games at least paused in the coming years. Nike wasn’t ready for his force and I don’t think NBA backboards are either.
