Joey Votto Popped Out To First For The First Time In His 13-Year Career

*there is no video of this pop out because the MLB hates the modern times in which we live*

Joey Votto is very much the modernized, JV version of Tony Gwynn when it comes to random ass baseball stats that seem far too impossible to be true.

No one is Gwynn, but Votto’s ability to get on base in this era is unparalleled. His bat control combined with his eye at the dish is absurd. The fact that anyone ever went 1,000 at bats without popping out to first is mind-numbing. Nevermind the fact that he went on to complete over 5,000 more plate appearances before he got under one and filed a (3) in the scorer’s book. It truly is the end of an era and it saddens me that Votto wont go to the grave never experiencing the annoyance of committing one of the easiest outs the game has to offer.

Hats off to Pedro Baez for the doing the impossible and making history tonight. Plenty of guys have thrown no-nos, perfectos, hell even 20 K games are more frequent than getting Votto to pop out to first. While it’s a sad day for Votto it’s a banner day in the Baez household.

And while Votto can no longer say he never popped out to first, another streak remains alive and well.
