Nobody Around Philly Would Really Care About Villanova Without Its Successful Basketball Program And That's OK

Well this certainly ruffled some local feathers. Is it a worthless take just to get Nova Nation all riled up? Probably. Hey, newsflash America. This doesn't just apply to Nova basketball. You see it in every corner of life. People most likely wouldn't give a hoot about the University Of Alabama without football, or *checks comment section* the world/friends/wife about Smitty if he didn't work for Barstool Sports. All very accurate points. But facts are facts, which is especially strange when a lot of local residents come out of the woodwork every March to be hardcore Wildcat teabaggers. Look, Nova is academically a GREAT school, but Philadelphia area folk and ESPECIALLY the media wouldn't give Nova near the time or day if it wasn't for the basketball program.

Now, does that stop me or anyone from rooting for Villanova to win another title? For sure NOT. I'm not going to claim diehard Cat status, but I will certainly pull for any Big 5 (or City 6 s/o Dragons) school to go far in the dance because it's great for the Delaware Valley. Same went for the Southwest Philly Floater days of LaSalle, Jameer Nelson putting the entire city on his sack for St. Joes, Penn finding a way into dance once a decade, and John Chaney literally threatening to kill other coaches (watch that internet worthy HOF moment from before the internet was even born) Shit, we've even stretched Philly's manifest destiny as far as West as Lehigh and as South as Delaware to claim victories as our own. It doesn't even need to be a human. We'll claim all species born and bred locally:

And I truly don't give a hoot if Villanova is considered a "Philly" school or not...even tho it really isn't - Source: Villanova's own Website:

"You Dickcheese Blockhead!!! Villanova is in the Big 5!!! They're a Philly school because that says so!!!"

Sure. Because someone made up a informal association in 1955 featuring the best local college programs in the area, that trumps actual geography and facts. Just like Dallas being in the NFC East. Naturally, one would have to assume Texas must be located somewhere close to the Atlantic Ocean, too.

However, FOR THE RECORD, let's all come together as one and root Villanova on for yet another national title. It's the right thing to do. Now follow/sub/comment/love/hate/ on Barstool's Philly podcast First Time, Long Time with Rone and myself. It's also the right thing to do. For who? The people. For what? To win. We'll hang up and listen.
