Deion Sanders Reveals How He Got No. 1 Recruit Travis Hunter To Commit To Jackson State
On today's Pardon My Take... DEION SANDERS! Coach Prime joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter on today's show to discuss the Fall Season of "Coach Prime" (first few episodes are live), the difference he is making at Jackson State, the presence of Dana Beers, and much more. In addition to all of that, the guys got into it unpacking on No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter's commitment process. Originally a Florida State Seminole, Coach Prime got Hunter to flip to Jackson State on National Signing Day back in December. How did everything go down a few months ago? We got some answers on today's show:
Mr. Cat: Can you explain how the Travis Hunter, who is you don't follow college football, he was the No. 1 recruit in the nation, signed with Jackson State. Everyone then accused Barstool of paying for him, which is not true.
Deion Sanders: You guys gave him two million, right?
Mr. Commenter: Three.
Deion Sanders: Three?!
Mr. Commenter: I gave him the extra million on top to close the deal.
Deion Sanders: He came to a homecoming!
Mr. Cat: That's it?
Deion Sanders: That was 70% of it. We just couldn't mess up the other 30.
Mr. Cat: Right. He was committed to your alma mater (FSU), people were very upset.
Mr. Commenter: They probably should have hired you if they wanted to get your recruits.
Mr. Cat: But like, what was the pitch?
Deion Sanders: It wasn't a pitch. Like, we don't pitch kids. We just really, "You know what guys? You're going to have an opportunity to come here and get an education, and play some darn good football, and have a good time.
Soooo… is the Jackson State homecoming the best event to ever exist or what? It must be top notch, if that was truly 70% of the reason why he committed. Check out the first two episodes of "COACH PRIME Fall Season" below:
