The AL Wild Card Race Between The Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays is TIGHT...Who is Getting in?

We've got a week and a half of baseball left in the 2021 regular season and the American League Wild Card race couldn't be tighter. We easily could be looking at four 90 win teams coming from the AL East with someone being left out of the party. Here's each team's schedule the rest of the way…

BOS: 3 vs. NYY, 3 @Bal, 3 @Was

NYY: 3 @Bos, 3 @Tor, 3 vs. TB

TOR: 4 @Minn, 3 vs. NYY, 3 vs. Bal

With Toronto's loss to the Rays on Wednesday and the Yankees comeback win over the Rangers, New York has regained that 2nd spot into the Wild Card Game. With Boston's remaining schedule and two game lead in the loss column it would really take a special collapse to not see them hosting the WC game. That leaves it to the Yankees and Jays to see who they'll play. The schedule certainly favors Toronto, especially with the head to head games against NYY coming at home. Still, a lot can fucking happen here.

Before the week started I described the Yankees situation (coming off a series loss to the Indians) as a hospice patient awaiting their final good byes from loved ones. Family trees were being taken out trying to see who gets the say on pulling the plug. Now after this sweep and Toronto dropping a few games I'll update it as that hospice patient finding out they have an experimental treatment the doctors are going to use that has a 30-40% chance of working. The Yankees certainly have their work cut out for them and that work starts on Friday with a three game set in Fenway. Gerrit Cole gets the ball fresh off of being booed off the mound in his last start at Yankee Stadium. Both of his starts in Boston this season did not go well and resulted in losses. Bad hammy and all, you gotta figure out a way to get the W on Friday. It's why you get the big bucks. Nestor will go Saturday and Monty on Sunday I presume. Gut check time. Find a fucking way.

New podcast is out where we break down the Texas series, Sevy's return, Gary's big showing, and what's to come in Boston. Plus a bullpen trust tree with all the new faces up now.
