On today's Pardon My Take... RYAN WHITNEY! The frequent recurring guest of the show joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter to discuss all things hockey playoffs. Also, his co-host and our friend Paul Bissonnette was on the wrong side of a bet, and Whitney explains why he's not a basketball guy. The guys also revealed some behind the scenes answers on how the Pink Whitney drink was invented. The answers may surprise you:
Mr. Commenter: I don't think I've ever asked you about the Pink Whitney. You're probably the world's most successful former hockey defenseman turned liquor salesman.
Ryan Whitney: Yeah, thank you.
Mr. Commenter: How did you invent combining pink lemonade with vodka?
Ryan Whitney: So, I used to drink pink lemonade all the time growing up. I'd go to the movies, I'd get like the extra extra large, 5,000 calories in the pink lemonade. And then, what do you know? When I learned about drinking and vodka, I just chucked vodka in my favorite drink, pink lemonade. Now, granted, that was like, I don't know, 1999, maybe 2000. I don't even think Tito's was around yet. And now, it's all Pink Whitney, baby. So, in the end , I kept drinking and drinking and drinking, especially playing golf. People loved it, great summer drink, and then boom, now it's taken off.
Mr. Cat: Look at that.
Mr. Commenter: What a story.
Ryan Whitney: Pretty simple.
Mr. Cat: That's pretty much, I mean, Steve Jobs, Ryan Whitney. How did you invent the computer? How did you invent pink lemonade with vodka?
Ryan Whitney: Same thing. I programmed my brain to know to put vodka in my favorite drink, [like he] programmed the computer.
Mr. Commenter: You combined your two favorite things, and they happen to work and be delicious together. I do like Pink Whitney. I just feel like every time you come to the office here, we get bullied into taking shots of your Pink Whitney. So, I'm curious to know, every time I take a nip, I drink a nip of your Pink Whitney, how much money is going directly into your pocket?
Ryan Whitney: Probably like, two cents.
Mr. Commenter: That's still pretty good.
Ryan Whitney: But one night, you did 10, so that's 20 cents, I'll take it. Just under a quarter.
Mr. Commenter: You were forcing me to. So, I knew that you were getting a cut on the tail end of it.
Ryan Whitney: Yeah, exactly. But I will say this. Nothing has worked like Pink Whitney in terms of getting goals. Whenever we're on these streams or we need goals, we do shots of Pink Whitney, the next thing you know, the over's hitting.
Mr. Cat: I love that.
Ryan Whitney: It's really wild.
