It's The Moment We've All Been Waiting For. It Sure Sounds Like We're Going To See Jalen Ramsey On The Ice

The biggest story in the NHL right now isn’t Steve Yzerman stepping down as GM in Tampa. It isn’t Marc Bergevin continuing to be the most trade trigger happy GM in the league and shipping Max Pacioretty off to Vegas. It isn’t the inevitable Erik Karlsson trade that will most likely go down while the world is asleep because the NHL hates pageviews. The biggest story in the NHL currently is Jalen Ramsey saying that even though he’s never put on a pair of skates before, he thinks he could crack the NHL in 6 months. That quote, like pretty much every quote ever, obviously had Hockey Twitter all sorts of ass hurt. It also rubbed a few NHL players the wrong way as well. Personally I’ve been all on board with Jalen Ramsey lacin’ up the skates since the get go and have held the belief that if Jalen Ramsey thinks it would take him 6 months to perfect something, that means he must think it’s the hardest thing in the world. 6 months to him to get good at something is like you saying it would take you 6 years. But I guess some guys in the NHL just have some thin skin.

Regardless…while Jalen Ramsey is a football player who thinks he can play hockey, if you’ve been been following PK Subban on social media at all this summer you’ll know that he’s a hockey player who thinks he can play football. He can’t throw the ball worth shit and he got completely dusted by Terrell Owens in some sprints (as expected considering, well, it’s T.O.). But chances are that PK Subban looks much less out of place trying to play football than Jalen Ramsey would look trying to do this.

Maybe after 6 months of intensive training he could potentially learn how to pivot to skate backwards but that might be the extent of it. But here’s the thing about Jalen Ramsey. He doesn’t just talk that shit to talk that shit. He’s always good to back up his words. And again, not that I think he was necessarily talking shit on the NHL. It was more talking up his own freakish athleticism than anything. But he said what he said and now it looks like he’s at least going to give it a go.

This right here. This is the shit we need more of. There needs to be a show where professional athletes attempt to play other sports. I don’t know if that has ever existed before but if not, let’s run that idea up the flagpole to the Chernin people and see if we can make it happen. It would be like Wife Swap except it would be Sport Swap. Jalen Ramsey playing hockey, PK Subban playing football. Whoever looks the least out of place playing the other’s sport wins. If I’m being completely honest here, I think hockey guys would win every episode they’re on unless it was with like Steve Nash or somebody like that. But unless the other guy already knows how to skate, hockey would be racking up the wins. But who knows, maybe we could uncover the next Bo Jackson with this show. What if Jalen Ramsey is actually as freakishly gifted as he says he is and just picks up skating out of nowhere? The Panthers or Lightning would have themselves a new top-pairing defenseman on their hands for every night besides Sundays, and sometimes Mondays or Thursdays. Oh, and obviously the show will be hosted by Chris Hogan who is already a dual-sport athlete as he is a wide receiver in the NFL as well as a former lacrosse player. Just in case you didn’t know that.

But yeah. If Jalen Ramsey actually gets himself out on the ice and puts his money where his mouth is, then I’ve got #NothingButRespect for 2.0 and the rest of the hockey world should as well.
