The Latest About a Potential Manny Machado Trade to the Yankees

Baltimore Orioles v New York Yankees

Alright so we’ve had some news today in regards to Manny Machado. Earlier today I got a tip from my guy who I trust very much so, that the Yankees are closing in on a deal to acquire Manny Machado. Now you’re probably like, “Oh Hubbs what do you know, you work for Barstool you don’t have sources, fuck you.” Fair, totally fair. I mean I don’t have a blue checkmark or any of that nor is my name Ken Rosenthal.

Well, there is one guy in the world I wait for a message from regarding Yankee news. Since last October when he entered my life randomly, he’s been nails. He tipped me off about Girardi leaving Yankee Stadium, furious about being low-balled and how he wasn’t coming back. Drilled it. He more importantly, tipped me off about Giancarlo Stanton being at Yankee Stadium with his entourage the day before he was traded to New York. This was later confirmed on Sunday when I knew about it on Friday.

I’m not here to brag about being right in the past or in the future. I could care less about that. I don’t care about getting credit for the Machado trade if it happens, nor should I. I’m just here to say this guy who is telling me the Machado deal is close to done is not joking around. When he messages me, something is happening.

So now you’re going to ask me, “what are we giving up?” Well, I know Baltimore wants Justus Sheffield. Whether Cashman is willing to actually include him in the deal is a mystery to me. I don’t know the package. I do know the longer the O’s wait to deal Machado, the less value they’re going to get back. Would I do a Machado deal that included Justus Sheffield? Yes, if there was a guarantee he would not be a rental, which I would be shocked if he wasn’t. I love Sheff and I think he’s going to be awesome, and I know a ton of the guys in Scranton love him as a teammate and treat him like their brother. I know for a fact he wants to be here and become a front of the line starter for the Yankees. Unfortunately trades happen, and when you’re trying to improve as a ball club and make the next jump some guys you don’t want to trade have to be dealt.

Now Cashman could very well work his dark sorcery and pull off a deal without Sheffield, which would be incredible considering the other offers I imagine the O’s are receiving from teams like the Dodgers and Brewers.. I also believe if the Yankees are pulling the trigger on this kind of deal, they have another set-up for a big time starting pitcher that would likely include Miguel Andujar. I do also believe the Red Sox are cooking up something big and Cashman needs to have his own answer.

Where would Machado play? He has been adamant he wants to play shortstop wherever he goes next. If that holds true we could see Didi slide over to second and Gleyber to third. Didi has played 79 career innings at second and I’m confident with his fielding ability and unselfishness he would not have a problem making the move. The infield positioning does not come off as an issue to me.

You also probably remember, but Manny hates the Boston Red Sox, just like many of you reading this. Watch this video and then picture him wearing #13 in pinstripes and tell that doesn’t fire you up.

Now take a minute, undo your belt, take off your pants, and think about this lineup

Brett Gardner LF
Aaron Judge RF
Manny Machado SS
Giancarlo Stanton DH
Gary Sanchez C
Didi Gregorius 2B
Greg Bird 1B
Aaron Hicks CF
Gleyber Torres 3B

Jesus Christ. Let’s see what happens boys and girls.
