Last night NBA Twitter was abuzz because JR Smith was suspended right before game time due to “conduct detrimental to the team”.

Everyone wanted to know what it was. Knowing JR Smith, it had to be something amazing. Did a blunt fall out of his shorts during shoot around? Did a sidepiece storm into the locker room and cause a scene? Did he bang LeBron’s mom like Delonte West? People forget noted crazy person Delonte West banged LeBron’s mom. So weird.

But nope. JR Smith was suspended for…….

ESPN - Cleveland Cavaliers guard JR Smith earned his one-game suspension from the team Thursday by throwing a bowl of soup at assistant coach Damon Jones, multiple sources with knowledge of the incident told ESPN.

I love it. Damon Jones trying to coach up/talk basketball/say literally anything to JR Smith and JR was not having it. I would think Swish gave him fair warning to get away from him, but you gotta believe Jones was trying to flex those coaching muscles and ended up with a bowl of minestrone in his face. Or maybe JR is more of a clam chowder guy? Or possibly he took up a liking to egg drop, from his time playing in China? It’s hard to really say what kind of soup it was, but that was a $90,000 bowl of soup. If I’m Campbell’s I sign JR to an endorsement deal immediately. Marketing 101, folks.
