Not Enough Good Things Can Be Said About OAR So I'm Only Going To Tell Two Quick Stories
——-
I know the guys wouldn’t want me to do this blog, but when every single coworker comes up to you or texts you yesterday about how nice and genuine Marc and Jerry were, I have to blog something.
I mean they already let me play on stage with them, they changed the setlist on the fly to play a song requested by CEO Erika, and are the most down to Earth, chill guys ever. Which makes no sense because they’ve been touring and selling out concerts for the last 20 years. They’ve sold out MSG twice. Feits lost his virginity to their music. They’ve done it all.
And then they have the nerve, the absolute NERVE, to come into HQ yesterday and do two podcasts and play 3 songs while talking and shooting the shit with everyone in between. It really makes you realize why they have been able to do this for 20+ years- when Marc says how happy he is to be playing music, he’s not bullshitting at all. There’s not a fraudulent bone in his body.
I think my favorite interaction was when Kate told Marc a personal story about her family and OAR’s music, and Marc remembered it from like 10 years ago and he also talked to her and thanked her for her service as a marine.
The handshake they can work on.
My other favorite story is how Jerry is a big Big Ev fan. The first time I ever met Jerry he asked me if I knew Evan. This was like, 2 years ago or so, and Big Ev was just the Viceroy for the Ohio State account, which I didn’t follow. So I was like nah, I’m not sure who that is, I think you have the wrong company, nobody works here named Evan. So he pulled up the OSU account and I was like ohhhhhh shit, Big Ev!
So flash forward to yesterday, me n Jerry are shooting the shit over by the elevators while they are doing the Rundown, and Jerry looks over, and he just goes “heh, it’s Big Ev”. He finally got to meet his hero.
The two new songs they played yesterday are so awesome. “California” is insanely good. And then I put them on the spot and they took a request from the crowd and played Black Rock which is a song I’ve loved, especially as a Maryland boy, for the last 15 years.
I love the new album, it’s streaming everywhere right now, so go over to Spotify and give it a whirl, you won’t be disappointed.
And then of course, a tradition unlike any other, the Summer tour.
