The Bears Are .500 For The First Time Since 2014, Dare I Say They're Back?

Well would you look at that. Lost deep in the wilderness through the Trestman Carnival and John Fox debacle we have risen to the lofty spot of .500. The Bears, folks, are back.

Now I’m taking it slowly. Yes I woke up this morning and said to myself if Mitch can play average this Defense is good enough to ride to a Super Bowl. Then I calmed down and said ok at least the NFC Championship. But in all honesty it is so much fun to watch a dominant Defense again. Yes the Seattle offense is a mess right now but that doesn’t negate the fact that the Bears have playmakers everywhere on the Defensive side of the ball and are a Kyle Fuller drop away from 2-0. As for Mitch, well I’m here to remind you that he is still incredibly football young. That’s not an excuse that’s a statement of fact. Last night the MNF telecast put up this graphic.

Which was obviously an oh fuck moment for all Bears fans. But I’m here to give you some context. Deshaun Watson started 30 games in College. Patrick Mahomes started 25 games in College then sat for a year in the NFL. Mitch Trubisky started 13 games in College then was inserted into the hellscape that was the John Fox Bears as a rookie. This isn’t an excuse for the interceptions last night, or the misread on 3rd and short quarterback keeper, or the story about not being able to throw left. This is just me saying patience is important.

The Khalil Mack signing did 2 things to this team. One it brought the Bears Defense from good to potentially great. And two it escalated the “win now” line of thinking to this season, which is not going to do Mitch any favors if rookie mistakes keep happening. We all want a winner and with a Defense this good we want a winner now. That means we’ll be more critical of a young Quarterback, which is irrational and stupid but hey, that’s how fans act right? So my main point from last night is you saw the plays Mitch CAN make, you saw the things he is able to do on a Football field both with his arm and his legs. You also saw some of the mistakes that a guy who is extremely football young will make. The good will come with the bad, that’s what happens when developing a young Quarterback in this league. Mitch could suck, he also could be really really good, so to decide one way or another this early in his career is purely a guess and beyond stupid. Be patient, enjoy the hell out of this Defense, and hope with more gametime and reps the good starts outweighing the bad on the Offensive side of the ball. Either way we’re watching fun, competitive football again and that is so fucking awesome. The Bears are out of hibernation, the Bears are Back (relative terms here, when you’ve been this bad .500 is most definitely back).
