Shoutout To The Atlanta Hawks Who Are Holding A Roster Spot For Vince Carter
(The Athletic) – Not even one second passed before John Collins exclaimed, “Hell yes!” when he was asked if he hoped the Hawks would re-sign Vince Carter in free agency.
A month has passed since free agency opened, and Carter’s future remains in question. On a conference call with reporters on Thursday ahead of calling the Jr. NBA World Championships, Carter remained adamant about playing one more season.
“Just waiting for the right opportunity, and nothing has changed as far as that goal, and that dream of mine is to still play,” Carter said. “It’s just a patient thing. I get it. I’m older. Teams are going younger. Hopefully, within the coming days, we’ll have something figured out.”
Two sources with the Hawks said Thursday that the team would welcome Carter back if that’s what he chooses to do, but both sources were unsure where Carter stood on a possible return with the Hawks and if he’ll find the perfect situation for him this offseason.

Now this is what I’m talking about baby. Vince Carter has been pretty open about his desire to play one last season, he even mentioned being open to returning to Toronto which is an idea I fully support. I don’t care where he plays, I just know I need him to be on someone’s active roster. As someone who isn’t ready to see Vince Carter walk away just yet because there’s just something about watching a 42 year old do this in real NBA games
this is fantastic news to hear that the Hawks are down. He’s definitely old, but certainly not washed up and we saw as much last season where he averaged 7 points on 41/28% splits with 1.6 3PM in 17 minutes a night. There is definitely enough left in that tank for 1 more season, and good on the Hawks for keeping that seat warm for him. He fit in perfectly last year as the crafty veteran and solid locker room guy, and seeing as how they just added a shit more young talent this draft to a team that was already pretty young it’s a win/win situation for everyone involved.
Sure it’s maybe a little crazy that guys like Melo and Jamal Crawford can’t find a roster and all Vince has to do is sign on the dotted line, but after we’ve had to say goodbye to some true NBA legends over the last few years, it’s awesome that we don’t have to do that quite yet for Vince Carter. The Hawks are already going to be a team you absolutely give some love to as you click around League Pass, and having Vince Carter in the fold pretty much solidifies it.
He may actually be one of the few guys we see actually get a farewell tour without ever winning a championship, and honestly for a first ballot HOF player like this, I don’t hate it.
