NBA Open Runs Are The Perfect Cure For The NBA's Dead Period

Lamelo-vs-Trae-at-Rico

If you’re like me, you’re starting to go a little crazy now that Summer League is over. Sure it’s fake basketball that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still basketball. In a league that has become a 365 day sport, once we get to mid July-August things start to get scarce. You have the Big 3, but other than that there are only so many YouTube highlight reels you can watch before you start craving something new. So while Summer League may be over and preseason is still months away, the internet does bless us with just the thing to quench your basketball thirst.

I’m talking about NBA open runs. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos on your timeline, whether it’s Rico Hines or Remy Workouts we’re at the point of the summer where NBA guys are hitting up these open runs and giving fans even more reasons to be excited. Nothing gives your brain unrealistic expectations than watching a guy from your favorite team look awesome in a pickup basketball game. Now not all open runs are created equal. Sometimes you see guys like Amar’e Stoudamire show up as a way to continue to find a way back to the league. Sometimes that tape isn’t kind

While Amar’e didn’t exactly show to be NBA ready, how about a slimmed down Dion Waiters?! Derrick Jones doing Derrick Jones things and jumping out of the gym, things like this are exactly what Heat fans want to see. There are a million of these type of runs, where you get everything from LaMelo Balla (who actually looks pretty damn good) and Trae Young

To Lou Williams killin people

Hell we even get video evidence of Jeff Green looking like he should actually be on an NBA roster and Nate Robinson still being very much the monster he was when he played

I’ve said it on the blog before and it remains true. You can convince me of anything as long as you show out in these open runs. I am admittedly a big time sucker for these type of summer workout videos, and I’d say the only thing that comes close to these type of videos are the ones where you see a player on your favorite team make 18 threes in a row. Those are intoxicating and I expect out timelines will be blessed with those shortly.

So if you’re someone who is craving any resemblance of basketball over the next few months before training camps open and we are all able to overreact to preseason basketball, I can’t recommend these NBA open runs enough. It’s not much, but at this point we have to take what we can get.
