Get a Load of This Golf Channel Guy Saying Belichick Was Going to Trade Brady Until Mr. Kraft Intervened

.

I’ve written a million Patriots blogs and I’ve rocked them all. But one thing no search engine in the world can ever find is an example of me chasing rumors down rabbit holes claiming all this bad blood between the Patriots Holy Trinity of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Mr. Kraft. The Boston football media has been throwing dried kindling soaked in Sterno on that smoke for over a decade and never once been able to get a fire started.

We heard it after Lawyer Milloy got cut. After Spygate. When bad actors like Albert Haynesworth were brought in. After contract talks got nasty with guys like Vince Wilfork and Logan Mankins. During the We’re Onto Cincinnati days. For sure we heard it when Aaron Hernandez went all Shooty McMurder on everyone and the Krafts were supposedly disgusted because how could the coach not know they had Dexter in the locker room. And who could ever forget how Deflategate was supposed to be tearing them apart. How Belichick [spins the Cliche Wheel] “threw Brady under the bus” when he said “You’ll have to ask Tom how he likes his footballs prepared.” Like a coach is supposed to be well versed on what kind of specific prep his quarterback prefers on his footballs like a mom putting sandwiches together for the kids school lunches. Hell, I’ve heard rumblings that Matt Patricia is a spy for the Krafts and Belichick just keeps him around because Patricia watches over his son, the safeties coach.

And all of it to me seems like horseshit. All the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have done through all this alleged in-fighting and turmoil is function together better than any organization in sports and win. Through roster turnover, coaching changes, unfair punishments from the league and getting every opponent’s best shot for 17 years, they’ve prospered. So show me where the irreconcilable differences in this supposedly fractured family are, because I’m not seeing it.

And now we’ve got noted Pro Football Insider Ryan Burr coming in from the clouds to say Brady was about to be traded once this season is over, but Mr. Kraft worked out the Garoppolo trade to make sure it couldn’t happen. This, by the way, would be the same Mr. Kraft who gives his coach carte blanche on all personnel moves. Who let him trade Drew Bledsoe, who was like a son to him and Myra. Right out from under the nose of then Senior VP Andy Wasynczuk, who’d signed Bledsoe to the richest deal in league history the year before. That guy is now going to force the greatest football mind of all time to go against his own better judgment? My ass he would.

The only thing – the ONLY thing that gives me even the tiniest doubt that there could possibly something here, how ever infinitesimal and exaggerated, is that third Tweet from this guy. The one that says his golf coverage gives him  “a MAJOR source,” is that this could be coming from Jordan Spieth. Total speculation on my part, but it makes sense. Brady owns a piece of Under Armour. Speith is an Under Armour guy. They’ve filmed commercials thinly disguised as golf videos together. But that doesn’t make them soul mates. In what universe does the greatest player of all time pouring his heart out to bitch about working for the greatest coach of all time to a casual business acquaintance half his age?

Do I think that fourth Tweet is correct? Absolutely. And while I like to think Tom Brady and I share the same thoughts and feelings, I can’t speak for him. But I’m sure he knows it too. Hell, he’s said it publicly. That when he no longer gives the Patriots the best chance to win a Super Bowl, he’ll be replaced by the guy that does. And I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what he told the “MAJOR source.” The Jimmy Garoppolo trade should totally confirm that the coach knows he is. But instead it’s just another chance for some other media guy to say the opposite. That somehow it signals total dysfunction in team management. It would be funny if it was coming from a Schefter or an Ian Rapoport. Coming from a guy who tells you what club Rory McIlvoy just pulled out of his bag, it’s hysterical.
