After This Weekend, The UFC Has A NEEEWWW Most Hated Champion

UFC 208 was on Saturday, and while the card (on paper and in execution) was lackluster, there’s plenty of shit to talk about. I do have to mention I was at the Barclays Center with the Barstool #squad and it was a HELL of a time. After being a fan of the sport for nine years, actually being in the building for the first time was surreal (and may have affected my perception of the event, so keep that in mind).

My main takeaways from the night are that Germaine De Randamie is the worst and I hate her, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has no idea how to run a mixed martial arts event, and the women’s featherweight division is still dopey.

De Randamie is the newest paper champ in the company after defeating Holly Holm in controversial fashion. A big Holm fan myself, I’ll admit my scoring of the fight could have been off, but I had her winning rounds 3, 4, and 5. So that alone equals a 48-47 final score in favor of The Preacher’s Daughter, but that’s not good enough. The final should have been 48-46, because Germaine was able to cheap shot Holly after the horn TWICE. Two blatant, deliberate cheap shots (the first of which rocked Holm) and a point was not deducted.

This Gus Fring looking bitch made that tongue out face in the second clip, then apologized and said it was accidental and in the heat of the moment. I’d almost respect it if she played the heel and said “Yeah I hit her after the bell, maybe the ref should have done a better job pulling me away”. ALMOST.

Don’t get me wrong, Holly didn’t fight a perfect fight by any means. She never truly found her distance where she could attack without getting hit with stronger counters, she attempted nine takedowns she never even came close to finishing, and spent WAY too much time in the clinch. BUT, last night’s fight should have been a draw at the worst, and calls for a rematch, which I’m not stoked about at all.

As for the NYSAC, they’re all a bunch of fuckin’ idiots. From the referees fucking up all night, to allowing Douglas Crosby to judge, to the judges just being bad and inconsistent in general, it was all off. Douglas Crosby, if you are unaware, is banned from judging in New Jersey, Nevada, and Ohio for stalking a female physician and being biased towards his fighter friends. We saw it on Saturday when Nick Lentz got destroyed. Two judges went 30-25, and Crosby went 30-27.

Speaking of judging, there was some talk of a “robbery” in the co-main event, Anderson Silva vs Derek Brunson. I’m here to tell ya this talk is absurd, from a guy who had Brunson 29-28 at the end of the fight. Brunson and Silva had a hell of a fight where every round was hard to tell who won, and the argument could be made for either.

The rest of the card went exactly as predicted, with Jacare quickly snapping Tim Boetsch’s arm off, Glover Teixeira grapplefucking Killa Gorilla, and Poirier/Miller swangin’ and bangin’. Obviously it wasn’t a very good card, and Dana White didn’t try to hide that when he said his favorite moment was his “plane ride home”, but there’s always next week.

Now, for what everyone’s talking about…

I ran into former boxing world champion Amir Khan on the way out of the arena, and while he claims he’s not dodging me, I’m calling fake news. Many people are saying McGregor and Mayweather need another MMA/boxing superfight to co-main event their fight, and the names “Amir Khan” and “Robbie Fox” keep getting mentioned in the same sentence. We’ll see, kids. We’ll see.
