If Barry Bonds Played His Entire Career At Coors Field, He Would Have Hit 988 Home Runs
I’m a Barry Bonds guy, and I will not stand to Barry Bonds slander on this website. He’s the greatest baseball player who ever lived. No debate. While he unfairly awaits his call from Cooperstown, I make sure that he knows that he’s the man on his Instagram page.
On Reddit this morning, I saw a post from Reddit user stoffer2 that I found to be quite interesting. Bonds’ numbers don’t need any inflating because his baseball-reference page is already laugh out loud funny to look at, but what if Bonds played all of his career games at Coors Field in that high altitude? Well, we now have that answer.
Thanks to baseball-reference, we can adjust Bonds’ career numbers to the ballpark factors at Coors Field, and if he played every single one of his games at Coors Field, he would’ve hit 988 career homers, and his record-breaking season of 2001 when he hit 73 bombs, that actually would’ve been a 94 home run reason. He also would’ve surpassed Ted Williams as being the last hitter to hit .400 in a season. Twice. In his age-37 and 39 seasons, batting .438 and .412, respectively.
I’m looking at this right now, and while a near-one thousand home run career seems ridiculous, am I wrong for thinking that he would’ve hit more? I always wonder what his career numbers would’ve looked like had pitchers actually pitched to him. He easily would’ve had numbers like these if he wasn’t busy leading the league in walks and intentional walks every season. Dare I say that 1,000 career homers would’ve been a layup for Bonds if pitchers were forced to actually come anywhere near the strike zone against him.
As far as the Hall of Fame goes, it’s silly that he’s not in yet. Was he a dick during his playing days? A little bit. Did he use performance-enhancing substances? Perhaps. But we already have guys in the Hall of Fame who used PEDs who also got in on the first ballot, so is Bonds not playing kiss ass with the media really enough reason to keep him out? For sure not. Get Barry and his ridiculous baseball-reference page into Cooperstown immediately. Thank you.
