Getting DQ'd From The Australian Open Juniors For Mistakenly Hitting A Ball Boy With A Ball Is A BRUTAL Way To Go Out

Would it kill Tennis Twitter to get a replay of the ball boy getting plastered?

Sydney Morning Herald-
A junior Italian tennis player was controversially disqualified from the opening round of the Australian Open for hitting a ball kid. Seventeen-year-old Maria Vittoria Viviani was sent packing from Melbourne Park in tears after she was automatically disqualified for hitting a ball kid with a ball after losing the opening set.

Italian journalists described the force as minimal, however Viviani still managed to strike the ball kid in the chest and was harshly punished for her actions. The teenager immediately apologised to the ball kid, raising her hand in the air with remorse for her minor outburst. However the umpire wasn’t tolerant of the behaviour and disqualified the Italian from the tournament after losing the opening set 6-2 to Chinese opponent Xin Yu Wang.

This is example 852,671,048 of why the people that run tennis don’t fucking get it. People don’t watch sports just for the love of the sport. Well actually most people don’t. Die hard tennis fans like Mad Dog Russo probably cum themselves over a good backhand. But most people want the entertainment value as well. Whether it’s a superstar dominating, a close match, or someone letting off some steam. That’s part of the reason John McEnroe is still on my TV filming commercials. And tennis ball boys are the perfect target for aggression. Literally every single video where a ball boy fails is funny. It doesn’t matter if they trip or they get hit in the dick or whatever. Constant entertainment. Which is why I think you should be allowed to hit one angry underhand at a ball boy per match, unannounced obviously. Maybe give them the kevlar vests that Jordy Nelson was wearing yesterday. And no hitting in the face either. If you do, you get DQ’d. You are a professional after all. Ratings would improve, the ball boys would be protected, and the smut bloggers would always have a potential headshot to blog on a slow morning.

And that was Talking Tennis.
