"She Was NOT Drafted Because She Was My Girlfriend." Former #1 Overall Picks Paige Bueckers & Azzi Fudd Hopped On A WNBA Podcast To Announce They Broke Up A Year Ago But Will Still Be "Utmost Professional" As Teammates In Dallas

Are you familiar with Paige Bueckers & Azzi Fudd? They're currently playing together on the Dallas Wings and were previously teammates together at UConn. And both of them were #1 overall picks in the draft too. Arguably could be the next 2 superstars to emerge in this new era of the WNBA. True blue ballers in every sense of the word.

And for some period of time at UConn, they were apparently dating as well. In fact those rumors were so prevalent by the time Azzi got drafted that Dallas had to put out a full on press release about it. People online couldn't help but whisper & wonder if Paige forced the team to pick her significant other over Olivia Miles.
Quite frankly a pretty fascinating narrative to see get debated in #SPORTS. Not your average bear. Turns out 'Heated Rivalry' didn't go far enough with their wild writing. Two top picks being in a legitimate relationship could be quite the conundrum for chaos.

If Cosmopolitan is doing posts about it, you know it's a big deal. I learned that from 'Mean Girls'. SO fetch. But unfortunately that's where the fun news ends my friends. Turns out love is dead and they've actually been broken up for a year now. Which means they just played their 1st professional season together as exes on hardwood. As Shaq would say, "Aw damn."
“We’re not together anymore, it’s been a while, over a year… We were not together before she got drafted, she was NOT drafted because she was my girlfriend, she was drafted because she deserved it, she’s an amazing human, amazing basketball player and we’re still friends, we’re still cool. We broke up over a year ago. We’re the utmost professional… We don’t stand for hate of any kind. If you’re using our names and our image to spread that, that’s not who we are and that’s not what we’re about. If you support us, why would you hate on our teammates, on our friends, on our family, sometimes in life two people are at different points of their life. We want the best for each other.”

Sucks to see two people choose to not choose LOVE. But at least it seems like they're being congenial about it. Guess they're gonna have to be since they're stuck playing together in Dallas for the next 5 years. If only The W had signed them to a reality show before this news dropped… They'd really be cooking with gas. RIP true love though. Nice to see they can still have a sense of humor about it all.
What a week for the WNBA though. They crowned an expansion team champion in a 7 game series, got Angel Reese to retire off social media for 6 months, and now just saw their last two #1 overall picks break up to farm some podcast clicks. Haters be damned, there's never a dull moment in The W. And speaking of #1 picks, looks like Caitlin Clark just made history with DICK'S. Congrats!
