"Facts Are Stubborn Things" - Curt Cignetti Wisely Points Out Indiana ACTUALLY Has Better Wins Than Everyone Else in College Football
As an Indiana fan who's morally obligated to back all things Curt Cignetti does and ever will do, I hate that this is a part of college football. I hate that Curt Cignetti probably feels like it's part of his job to go on the campaign trail for his team in the middle of the season, because they could wind up with their fate in the hands of this fucking guy.
Coaches can't trust Hunter Yurachek and his 12 hatless friends to watch every game. Most of them have real jobs. They're athletic directors of major institutions. So you know that, on some level, their opinions will be influenced by the national media's narrative. It's impossible for them not to be. So whether Indiana deserves their ranking or not (based on college football's arbitrary, subjective method of determining these things, where sometimes losses are better than wins, but not if you have too many of them), pushing random stats like "number of wins over .500 teams" that favor your school out into the world actually does kind of matter. Because that's the crazy way college football works.
Honestly, the way college football works has been breaking me lately. Well... it's more the conversation around it that kills me. Everybody is so negative. It drives me crazy and, in turn, makes me negative. I'm out here on Twitter lashing out at Brandon Walker for saying everyone sucks, which only adds to all of the negativity.
Sorry, I'm really straying from the topic now, but look at these fucking tweets from Bud Elliot. Is this not a ridiculous thing to be talking about in the middle of the season?

I guess those things matter. I know they do to some people. But do you think Bud Elliot got into covering college football so he could talk game times and TV revenue in November? There's no way. Can we at least save the "Ohio State deserves more money" talk for the off-season? I swear we've gotten to a point where the ONLY thing that moves the needle is talking about what's wrong with college football. What about introducing fans to a fun player who we may not have heard of? What about telling me something about Utah? Anything at all about Utah will do.
Now I'm doing the same thing. Instead of taking the time to do anything I'm suggesting the popular college football personalities do, I'm complaining about what they're doing wrong. Which I suppose is just as bad. Although I did write a blog about Sacramento State vs. Toledo this morning.
Anyways, to tie this all together, those popular college football media guys are who Indiana and every other team in college football have to win over with cherry-picked stats. Because they drive the conversation… The voters will never be able to watch enough football to fully form their own opinions… And at the end of the day, the playoff committee just wants everybody to tell them they did a great job.
So keep it up, Coach Cig. Any stats that tell the world Indiana's strength of schedule is better than people think, keep on pushing them. You're not just a football coach. You're not just a full-time recruiter of your own damn players. You're a full-time politician too.
