King Of Philadelphia: Jalen Brunson Has Been Named The Athlete Of The Year By The Philadelphia Sports Writers Association

Wow. I have to admit after decades of hearing all the horror stories about how Philadelphians are barbarians when it comes to sports, this award caught me by surprise. I was led to believe that it didn't matter if you were an injured player, a little kid watching a baseball game, or fucking Santa Claus. Philadelphia fans would boo you, throw up on you, or pelt you with snowballs all in the name of their beloved Philly sports.

Which is why it's so refreshing to see that the Philadelphia sports writers, and in essence the Philadelphia fans, have bent the knee to the King of New York after his storybook playoff run ended with a title. Sure, our king laid waste to the Sixers in a 4-0 curbstomping in the second round where he averaged a cool 29 and 6 despite not playing in the 4th quarter of two of the blowouts in that round. But as a wise man around here once said, #somethings are bigger than sports or cities or the laundry your favorite basketball team wears. The bottom line is that Jalen Brunson is as great a person as he is a player, which the people of Philly witnessed firsthand as he raised the only banners in their arena that aren't covered in dust.

So congrats to Cap on his latest accomplishment and congrats to Philadelphia on their new king. I hope the award ceremony is selling tickets because something tells me there will be no shortage of people in Philly looking to pay their respects at the coronation.
