Duncanville High School (TX) Is Somehow Considering Not Starting Maximus The Great Denson at Quarterback

Dallas Morning News — The start of the regular season is only two weeks away and there are some key starting positions that are still up for grabs at Duncanville. Namely quarterback and running back.

Duncanville is coming off a 12-2 season and state runner-up finish in Class 6A Division I. It enters this season ranked No. 10 in the nation by MaxPreps.

But coach Reginald Samples said Friday that he hasn’t decided on a starting quarterback as senior Maximus The Great Denson and sophomore Hunter Adams battle for the job. Denson is back on the Duncanville roster after missing the final eight games last year for what Samples called personal issues.

Denson had his breakout game against Class 6A Division II state champion DeSoto last year, throwing for 350 yards and tying a school record with seven touchdown passes in Duncanville’s 48-28 win. Adams played on Duncanville's freshman team last year.

Reginald Samples needs to make sure his head is screwed on straight before kicking things off this season. What do you mean you're considering starting some 15-year-old kid over Maximus The Great Denson? Do you hear yourself?

Now, I don't know what kind of personal issues caused Maximus The Great to miss the final eight games of the 2025 season, but it sounds like he's back and ready to go to me. I don't even care what these two look like on the field in practice. If it's close at all, you put your senior named Maximus The Great Denson out there and have him lead your team with aura.

This kid was posting highlight videos to YouTube when he was nine years old. He was born for this moment.

If I tune in to Duncanville-Allen next Friday night and "Hunter Adams" is under center, I'll riot. I have already designated Maximus The Great Denson as my 2026 Pick to Click and I'll be damned if he's relegated to the bench.
