Akron Football Tickets Are Selling Like Hotcakes After Their Announcement That One Season Ticket Holder Will Get To Call Plays
Good for Akron, man. The Zips may have more winless or 1-win seasons (5) than winning seasons (4) in the 21st century, but the athletic department has already won 2026 with this promotion.
People across America are now Akron season ticket holders thanks to the chance that they might get to script the Zips' opening drive of their September 12 game against Robert Morris. But if the marketing folks over in Ohio really know what they're doing, this thing will be rigged for on eDan Katz, now a proud owner of eight season tickets.
Regardless of who the play caller ends up being, that opening drive is going to be can't-miss television. If it turns out to be a run-run-pass three-and-out, America will riot and this entire thing will backfire on Akron, though. If you're going to do this, you have to open up the playbook.
Hopefully many of the tickets that have been purchased are by people who will actually go to some games or give them away to kids or something. Some November Tuesday night MACtion with a packed-out InfoCision Stadium full of people who bought tickets trying to become the team's offensive coordinator for a drive is why we love this sport.
