"They Want It, They Can Have It" - Inside The NFL's Mic'd Up Footage Of The Super Bowl's Coin Toss Drama Is a Cinematic Masterpiece

By now we've all discussed, read, and argued enough about the Niners' decision to receive to begin overtime in the Super Bowl. Big T tried to make the case to receive, but the moment San Fran settles for the field goal that strategy all falls apart. The 49ers froced themselves to operate under a handcuffed three down game-plan, while the Chiefs had four downs to work with, and knew how many points they needed. Allowing Mahomes to operate with no possibility of punting is asking to lose, especially when you see this stat.

It looks even dumber to take the ball when you find out the Chiefs were going for two no matter what during their possession if it came down to it. There was never going to be a third possession to luck yourself into once the Niners took the ball to start.

Seeing it all unfold with Inside the NFL's footage is even more fascinating. The pure shock and jubilation from the Chiefs sideline the moment they found out that the Niners won the toss and elected to receive is SOMETHING. Mahomes and Andy Reid never in a million years expected San Fran to take the ball. Even the ref Bill Vinovich gave Warner a double take and a second of reassurance after hearing the decision.

Kyle Juszczyk admitted after the game to the media that he didn't know the OT rules, but seeing him realize it on the sideline in realtime is incredible. We all joke about the script, but that all plays out like we were watching the climax of a football movie. It's all hard to believe one team in the Super Bowl didn't know the rules of the game, but that's what actually happened.

Kelce laughing all about it on his pod was the final knife twist to the gut for San Francisco.

Not sure how Shanahan ever overcomes this moment.

P.S. They really needed to be more clear about the point of the clock in OT. I get it's to switch the side of the field, but I need like bold letters near the scorebug saying "time means nothing"
