Caitlin Clark Scored More Points In Kinnick Stadium Than Iowa's Football Team Has Scored In A Home Conference Game Since 2021

Caitlin Clark showed out in Iowa's women's basketball scrimmage inside Kinnick Stadium, dropping a 34-point triple-double to lead the Hawkeyes to an easy win over DePaul. Clark going off isn't any sort of surprise, but the 34 points inside Iowa's football stadium got me thinking about the last time I could remember the Hawkeyes' trainwreck offense scoring that many in a football game there.

In any game, Iowa did manage to put up 41 points in a win over Western Michigan earlier this season. But if you're looking for the last time it matched Clark's total in a Big Ten game at home, you'll have to go back to the 2021 season opener, when the Hawkeyes beat Indiana 34-6.

Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz entered the 2023 season under a mandate to average 25 points per game or his contract would be terminated. Even with the aforementioned 41-point performance earlier in the year, the Hawkeyes are still averaging just 20.8 points per game and will need some Herculean performances down the stretch to save their OC's job.

Maybe Ferentz should call Clark and ask what her secret is.
