I know Frank The Tank has the market cornered with "On This Day" blogs, but sometimes monumental events slip through even Tank's meaty fingers, so I am here to fill in the blanks.
Twenty-five years ago today, an artist named Rob Pruit decided to shake up the art world by creating what he called the "Cocaine Buffet"- A 16-foot line of cocaine cut on a 16-foot long mirror that was on the floor of an art gallery.
There was no description.
There were no instructions.
Just 16 feet of booger-sugar laid out alongside a single straw.

The thick white rail lay there for about an hour before the gentleman who invited me to the show got on his knees and snorted a healthy 6 inches of Maradona… The rest of the gallery soon followed suit and within 10 minutes, over 5 yards of Belushi disappeared up a dozen noses.
The snorters had no clue what they were snorting, and nobody seemed to care… But everyone was pleasantly surprised/relieved to discover that they were ingesting the finest Peruvian flake Rob Pruit could buy.
1998… I was 26 years old, the President was getting blowjobs in the Oval Office, and art galleries were shoveling cocaine-by-the-foot… What a fucking time to be alive!
