Shocker: Turns Out Davante Adams Hitching His Wagon To Derek Carr Was a Giant Mistake

After the conclusion of the 2021-2022 NFL season, Davante Adams decided he was not going to play under the franchise tag for the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming year. If he was going to stay he wanted two things 1) a big ass contract, which he clearly deserved 2) assurance that Aaron Rodgers was going to be his QB for the future. When Adams reached the point where he couldn't be guaranteed both he looked for a way out. Being close to his family in California was a priority along with a ton of cash and a good QB he could ride into the future with all the way to Canton, Ohio. 

The star wideout chose to hitch his wagon to his old college buddy Derek Carr. Mistake number one. By doing so he also willingly chose to play under head coach Josh McDaniels. Mistake number two.

Naturally, Davante was excited about his new home. Maybe a little too excited? 

Listen I'm guilty myself of getting too excited about my sports teams making a move (see Gerrit Cole), but calling Derek Carr a Hall of Fame QB and comparing him to Aaron Rodgers is quite something. 

The outlook less than a full season in? Well, you're looking at the worst case scenario.

 That QB security and longevity you were searching for? Non-existent.  It's gone. 

Now while the grass certainly wasn't greener on the other side for Davante, it sure isn't all sunshine and rainbows over in Green Bay without him. I'll comfortably chalk this one up as a lose-lose for both teams. While the Packers situation is better considering they are still in the playoff picture (for now) and are seemingly trending up after a disaster start, it's obvious how the loss of one of the best WRs in football impacted the once Green Bay prolific offense. They've struggled to move the ball at times this season worse than I've seen in a long time. Now that Watson has emerged as a real weapon and Doubs has gotten healthy things are rounding into shape, but it was UGLY for a bit there.

It seems like a foregone conclusion that the Raiders are going to outright release or trade Carr at the end of this season. If he was to get hurt in the final two games and become unable to pass a physical the Raiders would be on the hook for $40 million next season. Can't let that happen. By benching him they can ensure his health and safely cut/trade him at the end of the year for next to nothing against the cap. He's gone. One of the main reasons Adams chose the Raiders is no longer part of their future. Not great. 

So what happens now? Does Davante force his way out? In most instances that probably happens, but remember he chose Vegas in large part because it meant being closer to his family. For his first home game he bought $500,000 worth of suites for seemingly everyone he'd ever met in his life. 

Seriously, how are suites that fucking expensive? 

But seriously is he just stuck in Vegas and accepting a restart at the QB position at this point? I can't seem them going with a drafted rookie next season and Jarrett Stidham certainly isn't a serious option regardless the lies they're saying right now to the media. I'm not going to pretend to know what their cap situation will be like, especially since teams get around that shit all the time, but is it crazy to think they can bring in Brady as a replacement since they're getting rid of Carr's cap number? Is it equally as crazy to wonder if Brady is an upgrade to Derek Carr at this point? Perhaps a downgrade? 

Welp, best of luck to Davante moving forward. No more Carr, but hey you've got Josh McDaniels there to steer the ship because the Raiders are reportedly "too cash poor" to fire him and hire a new coach. Good times!  

P.S. At the end of the day Davante has $140 million coming his way and is close to home. He'll be fine
