Caleb Williams Wins The 2022 Heisman Trophy In An Absolute Landslide Everyone Saw Coming

This was probably Caleb Williams' inner monologue during the entire Heisman Trophy ceremony while all the pageantry, pomp and circumstance swirled around him:

At least that's what I would've thought if I were him. Maybe he's a better young man than I was at his age. High probability there. As we all know, Williams was the necessarily fully-capitalized PROHIBITIVE favorite to win the most coveted individual honor in college football. But of course, those of us watching the ESPN telecast had to sit through almost an hour of drawn-out suspense before he was announced.

I get it, though. Cool to hear the human interest stories behind each of these decorated quarterbacks. But let's be real, everyone knew Williams was taking home the hardware.

Funny enough, I've been rethinking how I view predetermined outcomes lately when Andor creator Tony Gilroy discussed the merits of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series, which is a prequel to Rogue One wherein the main character's fate is already known.

PARDON ME WHILE I HAVE AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS REAL QUICK. I didn't anticipate finagling in a Star Wars reference to a Heisman Trophy-winning blog. Fuck yeah.

Anyway, Gilroy's remark makes me not want to waste a moment more of my life. Speaking of which, Stetson Bennett in particular had to be wondering what the fuck he was even doing there at the ceremony. Talk about burning precious minutes of one's existence on this mundane plane. You could at least make some manipulated, misguided Heisman case for CJ Stroud since he matched Williams with 37 TD passes, or Max Duggan for dragging TCU to the College Football Playoff. But Stenson Bennett? Come on now.

What stood out most about the lead up to Williams taking the trophy was the feature on him that explained how meticulous he is, how he journals everything about his life, keeps track of all the food he eats, and how engrained his work ethic was from such a young age.

When you combine those traits and desire to be great with Williams' un-fucking-believable talent, a Heisman is the result.

Williams also reiterated how "the job isn't done" during his acceptance speech, paraphrasing another LA legend in the late, great Kobe Bryant. Check out how poised Williams was even as the emotions began to flow:

If the USC QB takes the Trojans to a national championship, he'll be the toast of the town until he inevitably leaves to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. That's right I'm calling my shot early on that one. VERY early. Ridiculous to do so and I acknowledge the jinxing potential. Don't care.

Put simply, Williams is the man of the hour. The face of college football for the foreseeable future. Is in prime position under QB whisperer Lincoln Riley to join Ohio State tailback Archie Griffin as the only back-to-back Heisman winner. An eventual, probable franchise quarterback in the NFL. Can't wait to see what the young man does next.
