"Do Your Fucking Job!" Tommy Rees Ripping Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne Perfectly Sums Up The State Of The Fighting Irish

Let's just say the Marcus Freeman era at Notre Dame has not gotten off to a smooth start. A bowl game loss wasn't so bad, a frisky defeat at Ohio State was respectable, but between last week's home loss to Marshall and a bad start Saturday against Cal, it's a full-blown YIKES festival.

After three consecutive three-and-outs in which Drew Pyne completed three of six passes for 19 yards and the Irish gained five total yards, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees placed a call to the sophomore signal-caller to express his displeasure, hopefully light a fire under his ass and essentially beg him to play passable, quality college football. Hard to blame Rees, who was a player and assistant on quite a few of ex-coach Brian Kelly's winning teams. The on-field product right now in South Bend is not up to par.

Whether Rees' impassioned plea works remains to be seen. Initially, not so good...as Notre Dame ran just three plays on its next possession before yet another punt, and Pyne fumbled on the next drive. Tyler Buchner's shoulder injury will continue to cast a dark shadow over this Irish offense if Rees can't motivate Pyne to get his shit together.

But wait! There may be hope! The Irish got bailed out on a missed field goal thanks to a Cal offsides penalty that gave them a first down. Pyne then threw a TD to tie the score at seven. Maybe all is not lost. Still, grinding at home versus the Golden Bears isn't ideal.
