The Cardinals Had to Put in Kyler Murray's New Contract That He Must Do At Least 4 Hours of 'Independent Study' Per Week

The Arizona Cardinals made a massive investment in Kyler Murray, signing him to a five-year, $230 million contract extension with $160 million guaranteed. Obviously if any organization is making an investment of that size in anyone, you want to make sure you're investing in the right person and that they're going to at least put in the work you expect to hopefully perform at a high level.

With that said, having to put in a contract for your franchise quarterback that he must watch at least four hours of film per week doesn't exactly signal the utmost confidence from the Cardinals. That doesn't seem like something that's in Tom Brady's contract.

How will that even be enforced, anyway? Are they going to install software on his computer to track how long he's breaking down tape? Or send somebody home with him three times a week?

I get that you don't let a franchise quarterback walk if you've drafted one you believe in, but it seems odd to give someone $230 million and then turn around and say, "We think you play too many video games and will mandate you watch film at home or you forfeit this contract."

Also, just four hours a week? Kyler could knock that out on Monday no problem and spend the rest of the week playing Fortnite. If it's a  big enough deal that you feel you need to put it in the contract, make it a little more than four.

I'm not rooting for Kyler Murray's downfall, but having one of the largest contracts in NFL history voided because someone couldn't stop playing video games would be objectively hilarious.
