Fulham And Its Fans Going Batshit Crazy For Getting Promoted To The Premier League Shows How Awesome Promotion/Relegation Is In Sports

I know everyone loves to talk about how American sports needs a relegation system. It will never work, but it sounds AWESOME on paper. It looks even better when you watch Fulham celebrate getting promoted to the Premier League. This is a club that's been up and down from the Premier League, but still going nuts. This isn't the NIT or the Bahamas Bowl or something like that. This is the real deal.

Just a reminder for soccer, the top-2 teams from the Championship League get promoted then teams 3-6 go to a playoff for the third spot. Bottom three teams of the Premier League go to Championship League for the next year. You're talking about a major shift in money and all that. It just adds to the drama.

Now let me say this. Relegation is electric. It keeps every game as one that matters. There is no tanking or anything like that. It eliminates teams from resting stars for a better draft pick. Obviously it's different in soccer when there's no draft in England. But imagine if we had the Lions and Jets battling it out for the right to the stay in the NFL and not get demoted to the XFL.

The closest we get to this is a team 'getting over the hump' or whatever cliche saying people use. Maybe winning a division to get to the playoffs or the Wild Card game. But this is clearly multiplied by about a million. I'm not smart enough on how to adapt a promotion/relegation system but I'd be ALL for it just to see people freak out. I love mayhem. Give me mayhem. Give me someone like this going crazy in their apartment just for the *chance* to make a playoff to get moved up to the Premier League.

Would be awesome to be in Fulham pubs tonight. That's the sort of party you want to be a part of.
